Anxiety Attack?
posted 8th Feb
So when I was younger I had several seizures. Before each seizure I would get a "aura" my mouth would get dry and numb and then it would spread through half of my body. And then the seizure would commence. Lately I have had these aura feelings but they never cause a seizure. I got an EEG done, but the doctor said it looked healthy. She thinks I am having anxiety attacks.
So can you have anxiety attacks for no reason? Like one minute I'll be fine and the next minute my throat will go completely dry and my mouth will go numb. Should I get on anxiety meds or should I get a second opinion from a different neurologist?

It's possible that you're having absent seizures, and the EEG isn't picking up anything, because you're not having the seizure activity during the EEG.
I'd get a second opinion, since you have a history of seizure activity.

In my experience, anxiety attacks can happen at any time. I've had them since I was about 6. My parents refused to get me checked out or medicated for it. I've had to learn how to deal with them on my own. I can be completely fine one minute & then losing it the next. The only thing that helps me is drinking chamomile tea. I know it sounds stupid, but it's a comforting smell & taste so it usually calms me a bit.

It never hurts to get a second opinion.
I have had anxiety for as long as I can remember. It made me pretty miserable as a child, and has only worsened as an adult. But I have never experienced a dry throat or a numb mouth as a result. Not saying those couldn't be symptoms, but I personally have never experienced them, nor have I heard about them from others (and I'm too lazy to bother Googling right now).
