Writing name backwards

So my daughter is 4 and a half. She has been in preschool for a little over a year. She has been able to write her name for about 6 months now. Here recently everytime she writes her name, she is writing it backwards. Sometimes the letters are still the correct way, othertimes they are also backwards as well. Is this something I should be concerned about or not? I mentioned it to her teachers and they really hadn't noticed until I pointed it out to them today when I volunteered at her school and was looking through her journal.

I had this issue when I was younger. I wrote from right to left and all most every one of my letters that could be backwards would be. Does she have a dominant hand?

DS is 5 1/2 and in pre-k. He does this sometimes. He'll have all his letters facing the right way, but he'll spell it backwards. Like his name is Mikey and he'll write YEKIM.

Still pretty common for letters to be backwards at 4. Heck, DS is 7.5 and still writes his b and d backwards sometimes

Her dominant hand is her right hand.

Oh okay. My dominant is my left hand. That is probably the reasoning behind my writing issues as a child. But she is still young so it will straighten itself out!

You all are making me feel better. YDS has been picking up sight words that I do with ODS & the LO knows the word, but is spelling them backward. So if I show a card & it says ball - he says ball & then says l-l-a-b. So it makes me feel better that this is more common I was wondering if it was a sign of dyslexia (which runs in my family but I do not have it personally) since I do show them left to right & spell it out loud.

I teach 4K and this is super common! Lots of kids will be writing their name correctly for awhile and then all of a sudden it's backwards. I just remind them and it will turn itself around

Oh okay, thanks. I have been having he practice it more often now.

Its actually normal to do this till the age of 6. After 6 yrs old if it is still an issue, the school usually looks at it as a big problem in development and will offer testing to see why its happening.
But any testing before the age of 6 is useless cause its normal.
