Why don't employers like pregnant people?!!!

I went for an interview today and she called and said I got the job!!! I was to be there at 1 on Monday. I told her I wanted to be honest with her ( I would want to know if I was an employer) that I was 16 weeks pregnant if she couldn't tell ( I am huge I look 30 weeks...2nd pregnancy). She all of a sudden got really weird and awkward. She said let me call you right back and let you know when you can take your drug test. I knew she was lying due to her acting really strange. So she said call me after 9 on Monday and I will let you know because the women is gone. I said okay. She does not want me to come in at 1 now on Monday. I feel llike she is discriminating against me because I am pregnant. It is not a hard job and not a physical job. So I just don't know if I still have the job or what lol...Confused? ha...sorry had to vent!!!!

Dang, that sucks. You should of waited to tell her...

Because they dont want to be liable for anythign that happens to you. AND they dont want you to work while pregnant and say that you are going to come back after 6 weeks and dont.

She's probably check on benefits and maternity leave. She didn't tell you you got it and then tell you you didn't. I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly.

Yes that's illegal but hard to prove. Employers don't like to hire pregnant women because they spend time and money to train, and hire them for a position that they will likely only be able to fill for a short period of time before taking time off for the baby. There is logic behind them not wanting to hire you but it is smurffy and yes illegal.

honestly i would of waited until the "probationary" period was over.. my job wasnt really happy when they found out the week after they hired someone she was 5 months pregnant and had to go on light duty.. i doubt they would of hired her

Out is illegal. File a complaint with the EEOC. They will take your info and look into it.

its commendable that you were honest, but not everyone else is like that hun

She said she needed to call the insurance and I told her I have insurance through my husband and she said okay then I wont need to call. I did not have to tell her but I felt like I needed to. Just because someone is pregnant does not mean they are lazy and going to hide until the baby comes out.

You shouldn't have said anything. Very illegal but very easy to get around.

I know not everyone is honest. It is a job that I could even do from home after I had the baby until I came back.
