While honestly is good you should of waited until you started. They have spend money to train you for you to most likely quit or take an extended time off. They do not have to legally hold your job until you qualify for FMLA. You also have a higher chance of missing more work than the avg. person. Bad morning sickness, doctors, other weird pregnancy related things. Its a lot of "risk" on their part. I mean they cant fire you before you even start that would be to obvious as to why but be prepared for them to look for possible reasons to let you go. Not saying it will happen but it happens more than people like to think about.

first of all, pregnancy is something you are obliged to disclose to your employer because of their potential liability, FMLA responsibilities, and their benefits. secondly, if she calls you back and says you didnt get it after she already told you that you did, i would file a discriminatory complaint.

Not saying it's over yet...she knows you could file with EEOC and have a lawsuit. She may be checking on benefits and legalities. Companies don't like lawsuits.

Ya I wouldnt of told them you were pregnant until you have the job and they noitice themselves. I made the mistake of telling people I was trying to get pregnant with my fiance and they all wanted like weekly updates. I was so excited when we found out at 4 weeks and told my gfs at work well shortly after people started to try and get me fired.They kept hinting for me to go off on medical leave before I got fired. Eventually around 10 weeks I was kinda forced into going off on medical leave. Was very stressful and my Dr. told me that I didnt need to put up with that. But still I strongly believe if I hadnt told them I wouldnt have been tagreted as fast and could of got a few more pay cheques in before having to leave which would of helped allot. Although I wouldnt of been able to hide it long I am 17 weeks and HUGE. I hope you get the job!

There was no reason for you to bring it up.

She never said you were lazy. She said she needed to call insurance, which is what I assumed in the first place. There is a lot that comes with hiring a pregnant person. Insurance, maternity leave, having someone cover you during maternity leave, etc. Makes the hiring process more complicated, and it sounds like it has. She hasn't said anything about you not getting the job.

You are not obligated to tell anyone that you're pregnant. If the employer is unaware then they are at no responsibility for anything that happens.

Yeah, I wouldn't have mentioned it. As an employer, I would never want to hire someone who was pregnant. Yes, I know it's illegal to discriminate based on that, but think about it. Who wants to hire someone who might need to stop working at any time and who you KNOW will need to take 6 weeks off in the near future? Someone who likely will end up having to go on light duty. It sucks to hire someone and find that out.

For that reason, I didn't tell my employer I was pregnant when I went to an interview. They found out when someone else (a customer) mentioned it. I get why they wouldn't have liked it. The other pregnant girl there got put on bedrest and had to stop working, then I had my baby early and had to stop working with no notice and ended up having to quit because I couldn't start work again when they needed me to (since baby was still in the NICU 6 weeks later).

So, yeah. It's hard or impossible to prove that's why a person didn't hire you. This is why you shouldn't say anything.
