Wanting an abortion
posted 8th Feb
I have a 6 month old baby and I just found out yesterday that I'm pregnant again. I do not want another baby this soon, I want to get an abortion but it is really expensive and I can't afford that. I called the Planned Parenthood in my area (It would be the one in Sioux Falls, SD but I live in MN) and they said the cost would be $665. I make $800 a month, I have car payments twice a month, car and life insurance, and baby items I have to pay for. I can not afford this abortion but I am not going to go through with this pregnancy. I've heard that self-inducing a miscarriage can be harmful, sometimes deadly. So my question is does anyone know any funding sources that will help pay for the abortion? I have Blue Cross for insurance and it doesn't cover abortion unless you were a victim of rape.

I would call the clinic that administers them and ask them what the payment options are. A lot of places offer different financing options and a sliding scale for how much you have to pay, based on income.

Would you qualify for a secondary insurance? I know the medical (medicaid) covers abortions...
If that doesn't work, would you qualify for a credit card?

Lots of places will work out a payment arrangement. Good luck, hun

They said that with the sliding scale it would cost $665 based on my income and they wanted the full amount up front.

I would think that you could maybe set up payment arrangements at PP perhaps? Could you borrow the money from someone? Maybe pay them back once you get your taxes?
OP, are you on BC or were you just not taking it? I'd look into that as well, so you do not have a repeat and have to go through this again.

and make sure you can get it done asap. The longer you wait, the high the price.

I was also wondering about this. If she only makes $800 a month then she would definitely qualify for Medicaid based off income alone. They would pick up whatever expenses the blue Cross wouldn't cover.
It is something you should try to look into, OP.

There are resources out there that will help cover it.
You might want to try and look up and see if on the sliding scale it might be lower.
Only $800 a month and they want to charge $600 doesn't sound right.

And also OP, they have a card out called the Care Credit, it can be used for cosmetic procedures, dentists visits, and also for veterinarians. Maybe try applying for that and seeing if the office takes it. It's worth a shot.

When I got mine years ago. I told them I didn't have the money and they lowered it to $250. Try and talk to them about it.

Only a couple of states offer Medicaid covered abortions so that's not really an option for her.
Call the clinic up and ask if there's some way you can pay for it somehow.
I really, REALLY hate that abortion is so ridiculously expensive.
