I voted 15+ months, though I have yet to wean my two children (4 years old and 28 months).

I had planned to nurse my first until just before I went back to work at 12 months PP. I don't think I even realized that a toddler or small child could nurse  . But when the time came to start weaning, I found that neither of us wanted to. It was very difficult to wean her through the day (if I had to do it again, I wouldn't have bothered, she would have weaned through the day more easily at daycare and just nursed when I was around  ).

Quoting MissHolly:" I am just wondering when you all stopped breastfeeding and what the leading reasons for stopping was? ... [snip!] ... a lot of work I do it because it is better for my baby and me. I am thinking about doing it for the first year of her life..."

I had to supplement in the hospital because she lost so much weight. I don't know if it was my diet but my milk wasn't fatty enough, nor did I produce enough, so I would always start with breastfeeding but had to give a bottle at least 2-3 times a day. She practically nursed around the clock. I had to mess around with a lot of formulas to find one she would even like. I actually started supplementing with soy milk when she was about a year old, she didnt get cows milk until maybe 2, to 2 1/2. I stopped breastfeeding completely when she was about 18 months old. But by that point it was typically only night and morning feedings she was nursing for.

My daughter self weaned at 11 months. I guess the taste changed when I got pregnant. She was one of the reasons I tested. lol The baby ( 7 weeks) is still nursing and I have no plans of weaning until a year. 1 1/2 is MY cut off

I planned to BF until DD self weaned and would give anything to still be 'at it' but i had a raft of problems involving, split nipples, latch problems (now diagnosed as tongue tie which led to : nipple confusion (shields/dummy), enforced forumula supplementation(HV), low supply caused by supplementing, medication, nursing strike breast refusal and medication again, I combi fed until 4 months and then had to call it a day when i was put on some medication andmy milk went entirely.

With this baby I plan to BF exclusively until they self wean and i will not be told to supplement, or allow anyone to interfere.

Quoting snglemama:" almost 18 months. she was mostly self weaned... only nursed every few days. we were about to leave ... [snip!] ... I nursed that long.. because it was best for her. Toddlers rarely eat well anyway... so the BM was especially good for her then"

That was one of the benefits to me. My older child doesn't have a very rounded diet (there are only a few vegetables she will eat and no fruit) so I feel a little better that she continues to get milk from me. Plus there is the benefits from the antibodies  .

I didn't get the information or help I needed, because I had a painful condition that no one I talked to really knew how to help. Sadly I quit when I shouldn't of, at 2 months, that is when I completely stopped. I mix feed with donor milk and formula. Next child, I'll be determined to breastfeed to 2 years or more.

Quoting RonniG:" I stopped breastfeeding because standing in the breakroom bathroom that 20+ other people at work needed ... [snip!] ... use, hooked up to a breast pump wasn't working for me. It's unfortunate that this country isn't more accommodating to mothers."

That makes me so sad! Kudos to you for trying though. I really disliked pumping.

I am very luck to live in Canada and get a year off of work. My job topped up my benefits and I received almost my whole pay for 12 months.

We stopped when he was 13 months and I wish I would have went longer but I had reasons why we stopped and my pump broke and he lost interest so my supply died.
He gets donor milk sometimes even still though thanks to some mamas I know. :]
He is 2 1/2 and I have noticed he gets sick a lot less when he is drinking donor milk regularly. Prolly weird since he is so old but the world average is around 4.5.

Quoting His momma!:" <blockquote><b>Quoting snglemama:</b>" almost 18 months. she was mostly self weaned... ... [snip!] ... If you don't mind me asking how old was she when you stopped feedings so often. ? Or Did she just suddenly stopped?"

it was a slow progression after about 15 months for her. But.. I was working full time too.. so when she was younger she'd cluster feed when I was home. As she got older, and was eating solids fine when I was working/sleeping she didn't need to cluster to catch up. sometimes she'd go days without nursing.. then she'd nurse 3-5 times in a day. when we quit... I didn't so much as tell her no.. as just redirect and see how it went. she asked for milk.. I suggested juice in a cup and she accepted. She only asked a couple times and didn't whine when I suggested a cup.. so I went with that.

Have you thought about re-lactating mama? If you have a pump it is certainly possible :] Oh and donor milk ftw! I help pick up and run donor milk to my friends.
I have friends that don't drive and need it so I helped them locate it on HM4HB and then I usually pick it up for them and deliver it. It makes me, them and the baby happy so I figure "why not?"
