Would it bother you?

posted 8th Feb
Ok so on FB someone in a group posted thatthey were made cause in their childs agenda the teacher wrote the word bitch.

The teacher wrote it due to a discussion that this child had with another child and the word was being used, the child who had it written into the agenda did not use the word but the discussion was about how it was inappropriate to use the word by the other child.
The kids are grade 7's.

This person is upset cause it was written in the childs agenda (cause the discussion got out of hand) and is saying that the teacher was inappropriate for writting it. And should have not done so, since she likes to keep the agendas for keepsakes to show her kids when they are older.

How would you feel? For me I seriously see no issues with this at all, but was the only person who feels that way, with all the replies leading to the teacher is an idiot and had no right to write the word bitch.

So how would you feel?

It wouldn't really bother me. But I think I'd rather the teacher call me or discuss it with me in person...

I would be disappointed my kid was talking like that at school. I think the mother is setting her child up for failure if she is going to be mad at the teacher for something her daughter said. I dunno I don't see the issue.

She said her kid wasn't the one who said it though. It wasn't a message home in Susie's agenda that little Susie said "bitch." It was something to the effect of "Johnny and Mark were saying the word 'bitch' today in class and we had a discussion about how inappropriate it was."

And I think it was completely inappropriate for the teacher to send home such a message in their agendas. Something like that can be sent home in a separate note or with a phone call or something. Maybe a class-wide e-mail. But right out there where the kids can read it and whatnot is completely inappropriate.

As was the discussion in class of such a word. A general discussion on not using bad words would have sufficed. And stopping this discussion from happening between two children should have happened before it ever got out of hand.

This. Completely.
As opposed to writing in the book, and having to explain it later (which is my understanding of how it happened), the teacher should have called or sent an extra note home explaining the situation.

Her daughter didn't say it. It was the other child.

OP I would be upset that the teacher actually spelled the word out in MY childs agenda. My child is not the one that said it. So why should my child stare at the word every time they open it?
The teacher should have called and discussed it with me or wrote that "inappropriate language" was being used not "the word bitch was said"

I think it would have been more appropriate to say that there was some "inappropriate language" used in class today and follow up with a phone call.

I still dont see it as an issue IMO.

the agenda is used as a communication tool between parents. You know how hard it is to actually talk to a teacher or have them call you, and even more so with the work to rule stuff we have her, meaning as soon as school ends the teachers dont deal with stuff containing to the kids. So no after school phone calls etc....

I still say its 100% ok, as a reminder to my child that he was in the right to state to the other child that the use of the word was inappropriate but getting into a heated argument about it was not the best way to deal with it. kwim?

I mean, they are 7th graders. What 7th grader doesn't swear on a regular basis behind adults' back? But then again I wouldn't save every single agenda to show my kids when they were older. So no, I wouldn't care.

Yeah....the "saving the agenda" thing creeps me out a little.

I understand saving report cards, pictures, maybe a really good progress report about the kid....but not every single agenda. That's like 180 pieces of paper per year, per kid. That's borderline hoarding behavior.

My husband scans all of my daughter's art and good tests every year....then the paper gets recycled. Each year we have a DVD of her stuff. Cuts down on the amount of crap we have lying around the house.

Yeah, and artwork too. But that's it. Whatever is the opposite of a hoarder, that's me. I get rid of everything that's not used or doesn't look good in the house lol.
