Maybe you should ask what they want to eat for breakfast? Maybe some toast with cinnamon sugar on it. Or chocolate milk and toast? Maybe his/her belly is upset and needs some carbs.

Not sure. I wish he could tell me what he wants but he would rather chase the cat around.

Kids are nutty... he might just want something else.

THis AM I made LO eggs and toast, and then a blueberry banana yogurt smoothie she's been begging for... everything was "oh, I don't like that"

That sounds like the kid I babysit. The other morning, she asked for scrambled eggs and when I made them she said, "oh I forgot I hate eggs."
Weirdos.

18 months. I am trying to teach him words but he is one of those who only learns what he decides he wants to learn.

Toddlers don't eat like babies eat. Sometimes they'll only eat one type of food (cheerios for example) night and day for a week. Then they'll refused to eat them again. Any new foods are normally treated with suspicion. My 2 year old will not eat peanut butter and jelly if the peanut butter and jelly are touching.   Kids are basically programmed to only eat as much food as they need. They only eat when they're hungry.

Us adults work a little differently because we've been programmed to eat 3 times a day with a few snacks. We will eat even if we're not hungry and don't need fuel.

The pedi always told me not to force the issue if my son(s) are drinking consistently, we're fine. What i would recommend doing is giving them smaller portions from this point on. It's much easier to give them more later than throwing out food they've picked over.
