When can they tell if its twins?

I am 18 weeks now, and so far only had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks, can they tell by then if theres two babies?
Because sometimes i swear i can hear two different fast heartbeats on my doppler, and i am showing HUGE for my week. My next ultrasound is in a week... could i be surprised?

Possibly. But most likely you are hearing either the blood, heart or your heart beating at the same time.

The second heartbeat is probably yours

They would have been able to tell by now

one is probably the placenta, they sometimes can tell at 6 weeks sometimes they cant, but there should be 2 yolk sacs at 6 weeks

It's not me hearing my heartbeat, i know the difference in sound. I was just curious if they can miss twins at that early or not.

my twins are almost 9. I found out at 26 weeks I was having twins. They missed it on my ultrasound at 12 weeks. : / small town doctor, old 2D ultrasound. The reason for teh 12 week ultrasound? to CHECK for twins as I had hyperemesis, was measuring large, and have a family history of twins.

Nope, not a 3d ultrasound. I am absolutely positive i am not hearing mine and the babys heartbeat, because mine is obviously much slower and i can hear the very slow one in the background, and then sometime two very fast ones close together. Could just be an echo or something i suppose, i guess i wouldn't be wondering if i wasnt so huge already for only 18 weeks

baby's heart beat kinda gallops.. still could be just one.

has the doctor said you're measuring ahead? or do you just feel big because you're little?

Honestly the doctor has never measured me. Even I was surprised at my last appointment that he still hasnt felt my uterus, measured me, etc. like ive heard they do around this time. All he does at each of my appointments is take my weight and listen to the heartbeat. I supposed I could just feel huge ha, besides being really skinny to start im also pretty short so maybe im just crazy.

I've never heard of a doctor not measuring. Typically they measure your stomach from pelvis to top of uterus.. and listen to heart rate.

Yeah thats what ive heard, i thought he would at my last appointment but he still didnt. I was surprised as well

like i said it could also be the blood flow to the placenta

In the uk they dont measure until 24/28.weeks.depending on baby number. They do check heartbeat though! So they should be doing that. X
