It doesn't mean you're an addict due to heredity, it means you're more prone to it by being exposed to it. If a child grows up in a drug free home they are less likely to be on drugs. If a child sees a parent using drugs they become curious about them, and may abuse them theirselves. I grew up around drugs my entire life yet I don't abuse them. Yet three of my siblings do.
