toddler bed

posted 7th Feb
Best way to transition my toddler to a toddler bed? Hes only 15 months, I'm in no rush but his crib will go to the new baby due in March. If he doesn't transition easy I will get a bassinet to give him some more time. Thanks for the advice

personally i would just buy another crib he may feel like your taking his things to give to the new baby id also be terrified of him getting out of his bed without you know and him getting into something that could hurt him

We just went cold turkey, took apart the crib and put up the bed, and let her use it. Had to tell her to get back in bed a few times, but she's done great since then! It's been 3 months almost!

I'm also concerned cause he tries to climb out. plus he loves the new car bed lol but yes I would get worried he would get up but I'm planning on getting a door gate and he shares with his big brother the room and they get up at the same time.

We have a convertable for DS, and we turned it into the day bed for now, and put a rail up so he cant roll out of bed. We only had problems the first night, and since then he is awesome. Now he tells me when he is ready to get in bed, and will go climb in all by himself. It's only been 1 month, but he does amazing with it. We are also due with our second in March, and we just bought this baby her own crib, because I didnt want DS to think we were taking away his stuff to give to the new baby, kwim? We also switched bedrooms so the NB's room will be closest to us, and we switched months ago so he would be well used to it before this baby gets here.

I was thinking since I put his blankets on the bed he would know it's his new bed and I was going to buy obviously pink bedding to put in the crib before she gets here

I just put LO in a toddler bed. stressed that he was a big boy now and it was time to sleep in a big boy bed.....recently we went from a toddler bed to a twin sized bed. That was a lil tougher. We had them both set up in his room, and he slept in his t-bed for a couple more nights then decided he was ready for the bigger one.

Do you have baby monitors? That pretty much puts a stop to them getting into anything with out you knowing. We tried the baby gate thing, and it made it much worse. Now we just shut his door so there isnt anything to distract him. We can still hear him through the montitors, so I know if he gets out or wakes up for any reason, and I can get to him before he can get into anything.

No the room is right next to ours, I leave our save their door open. I am a light sleeper and their door is really loud. Plus my oldest turns off Baby monitors

As long as she has a baby gate to his room that she could close before her and her SO go to bed, that would keep the LO in his room until they got up. DD loved getting hers, she was 15 months too, and she actually comes and asks us for breakfast in the morning, or a cup of milk at night.

i did the same thing with my son.. & i baby gated the door way so he couldn't get out... he ended up loving his toddler bed and had no issues

Not all kids are the same. DD climbed her crib and pack and play at 12 months. She scaled it like a monkey. And she did it every night when we put her to bed, whether she had fallen the night before or not. But we've told her not to touch the baby gate so many times, that she just leaves that alone. The age that a child can change to a toddler bed, on the box, is 15 months. As long as he's blocked to go to JUST his room and his toys, there's nothing wrong with using the toddler bed.
