If YOU delay/selective vaccinate...

posted 7th Feb
What was you schedule? Which ones do you get while they are in the hospital?

My other 2 boys are both vaccinated (delayed a few with DS2) but now at the (almost) age of 4 he has all of his, so I guess you could say I'm "pro vaccinating"
But I am second guessing myself with this one.
So if you DO vaccinate but delayed how did you go about it?
TIA

At first everything was on time when it was supposed to be, and I honestly can't tell you which ones were done in the hospital lol. But after the first year I delayed vaccines, not on purpose it just happened that way.

Since Emerson had a serious vaccine reaction we no longer delay but we used to follow a delayed schedule. We delayed ALL vaccines until four months, including hep B in the hospital. When they hit four months old we would give them the standard two month vaccines minus hep B and varicella. After that we would do a full set of shots every six months. So when they are ten months they'd get the standard four month shots. When they are sixteen months they'd get the standard six month shots, when they are twenty-two months old they'd get the standard 9 month shots and so on. This schedules put them on target to be fully vaccinated (besides the two we chose not to have them get) by shortly after their third birthday. I formulated this schedule on my own through a lot of research. My reasoning for delaying all vaccines until four months was because I read a lot about vaccine schedules in other countries and a link to SIDS and vaccinating younger than four months. Many countries don't start vaccines til 4-6 months and have much, much lower rates of SIDS than the US does. I waited six months in between vaccines because of a lot of research I read that showed the immune system needs time to recover in between shots, it needs time to work the vaccine into the body and too many shots too soon can weaken the immune system rather than strengthen it like intended. I am not super anti-vaccines honestly, I might seem that way but my concern is more about the commercialization of vaccines in the US and I really can't stand the way vaccines are pushed but breastfeeding isn't. Or that vaccines are pushed but delaying solids isn't... and early introduction of solids has a HUGE negative impact on the immune system. Breastfeeding is the single most important thing you can do for your children as far as immune development and it makes me crazy that the medical system doesn't recognize how important it is. They make money off of vaccines and they make it no secret that pushing them is their priority. I think it is important to recognize that vaccines are a business and they are not some flawless, harmless gift from the heavens lol. So basically I am not okay with giving them to my children right now for a lot of reasons... but I am not entirely "vaccines are poison"... if that makes sense lol. Doing research with an open mind to both sides is a good idea. When you find an approach that works for you just remember to follow your instinct and stick to it, don't let yourself be talked into something you don't want to do by hospital staff or pediatricians. You are the mother and you have a right to make these decisions concerning your children.

I was hoping you would weigh in. Lol
So no hep B at all? Is that the only they given in the hospital?
I was thinking starting at 2 months.
What about Rotavirus? What age do they give that one?
There are so many I don't know which ones to get when, but I do know I dont want tons at once!

I'm not a fan of Hep B... it just doesn't make sense to me. For one, an infant/child's odds of contracting Hep B are incredibly slim. Too small in my opinion to make them worth the risks. Plus Hepatitis B is actually not as scary as we're led to believe. In the majority of adults who contract it, the body will rid themselves of the virus within a year. Of the few people who still have it after a year, it will only cause problems for a very small number. It is definitely the most harmful for infants and small children if they contract it but the odds are practically nothing for most children... a lot of things are more harmful when contracted as children but we still don't vaccinate for them. It just doesn't make sense when the odds are so small. The only problem is that hospitals are JERKS about this vaccine so it can be tough to get them to back off about it. I have a friend who is a pediatric vaccine research scientists and literally straight up told me that the reason they are so pushy about it is because they make a ton of money from it but so many parents think it's ridiculous... so they stand to lose a lot of money if more and more parents reject it. The best way to avoid it (if you want to avoid it) is to not say you are flat out refusing it. Just say you are delaying until the baby's a little older. Most pediatricians are no where near as pushy as the hospital staff so if you still don't want him to get it when he's older you'll have an easier time refusing it then. As far as the rotavirus vaccine I definitely refuse that. It was designed for formula fed infants so if I formula fed I suppose I might consider it... but a breastfed baby definitely doesn't need it! Breastfed babies who are given the vaccine actually have low percentages of resulting immunity compared to FFed babies who receive it because properties in breast milk attack the virus in the vaccine... which shows that breastfed babies are capable of fighting the virus on their own.

Here is some interesting information on how Hep B affects people.
