UGHHH! I'm so frustrated.

posted 7th Feb
We're on day 5 of RSV and just got released from the hospital.

I was reading the discharge instructions and it lists to seek immediate medical care for: Difficulty breathing, severe coughing, coughing and throwing up, etc.

Which is the EXACT reason we were in the hospital...and he has the same symptoms...So, why release us when he's showing the symptoms it states to bring him back for?!

I'm just so worried. I was home alone just now and he spewed two ounces of milk out of his nose. His eyes were rolling in the back of his head because he couldn't breath. I grabbed him, put my mouth over his nose and mouth and blew, then sucked him out with the sucker until he was screaming and it was all clear.

This needs to be over with. Now.

If he can't breathe take him back to the hospital and demand he be admitted. Don't leave.

If he stops breathing like he just did, you really should take him back to the hospital. Demand he be admitted, and refuse to be discharged until you feel comfortable.
Also, be really really careful doing mouth to mouth on a NB, especially if you aren't trained. You could very easily cause a lot of harm if you blow too forcefully or blow too much air into his little lungs.

Did he improve while at the hospital? If so that is probably why they released him. If he gets worse bring him back.

This!

Good luck. I know that now isn't the time but once you can, learn infant CPR. I feel so much better being CPR certified, it has given me a lot more confidence.

No improvement, but he didn't get worse either. He was on the monitor for two days. His pulse rate would shoot up and down, and there was a few times where his pulse ox level dropped down in the 80s. But...They kept telling me they couldn't hear anything in his lungs and that he was doing great.

I just think to myself...If he's doing great, I'd hate to see a baby who is doing bad.

Btw, I didn't blow very hard. Just enough to clear his nose out a little so he could start to catch his breath, then the sucker took over.

Be very careful, there was a beautiful mama on here who had her baby (8 weeks i think) admitted to the hospital for RSV. This was like maybe 2 months ago. I believed he was discharged and she ended up bringing him back and he died. I don't mean to scare you. Just want you to know that it can be serious.
