Rant on society

Totally half asleep when I wrote this but this was my rant for the day.

But seriously, I agree with pretty much everything you said.

I loved it. Everything that we used to know is going down the toilet. Its quite sad. Things will never be the same in the world.   *sigh*

Sorry for it being all over the place... people sometimes ask if you could live in another time period, where would you live? I always say the 50's. I know society had their problems, but people just had a different way about them. They didn't talk about certain things, they showed respect to others, and they raised their children well. I just wish it was that easy nowadays to keep your children safe and raise them right today.

People romanticize the fifties too much, imo.

Now onto your article:
I personally CRINGE when I see prepubescent girls walking around with low cut shirts and shorts that barely cover their ass with the word "sexy" or "juicy" on the back. I see no need to watch my weekly tv shows, and watch people rolling around naked in bed. I believe our society has become overly sexualized.

I agree that we have become a very immodest society and romance is a dying trend. I find many of the older movies that only show kisses to be far more romantic than the bumping and grinding shown on today's tv shows. I was watching Game of Thrones and I think the sex is just too much and over the top and unnecessary.


But it is still taboo for thirteen year olds to be pregnant. ;)


The idea of a nuclear family is pretty much gone. There are tons of single parent households, where the remaining parent needs to work a job or two, leaving the kid to pretty much raise themselves. It is rare to see a loving two parent household where attention is actually given to children growing up, and the focus is on teaching kids correctly, and not using the television for a babysitter.
The nuclear family is actually a new invention. In other countries in Asia, S. America, Europe and Africa, multiple generations live under the same roof. I actually dislike the idea of a nuclear family, though I grew up in one. I support three or more generations living under one roof. I plan to still live at home even after I have children so that my mom can see her grandbabies everyday (and she wants this as well).


I'm also not against single parenting as I plan to be a single mom myself once I get all my ducks in a row. Not everyone wants to get married or be in a relationship, but still want to have children. Nothing wrong with that, especially if that single parent is very well off and can provide his/her child a good life. See Sandra Bullock.


But I do agree that "broken" families are more common. My parents are divorced and that was pretty devastating for me.


Some people update their social media sites with every move that they make. Had a taco? Great. Went to the gym? Great. Taking a smurf? Even better. We have no privacy anymore. Good old fashioned conversations and updates with family and friends have been replaced with the click of a "like" button on Facebook.

I agree with this 100%. Even though I have a Facebook page, I can honestly say that I hate Facebook for the most part and how "me, me, me" oriented society has become. We have become very isolationist, and people just don't know how to talk to each other anymore.

I don't think there is anything wrong with multiple generations living together. That used to be quite commonplace years ago. It's becoming more common again with today's economy because it's more affordable.

The difference between Sandra Bullock and the average single woman raising their children, is that she has the ability to pick and choose which projects she takes and has the money and ability to stay home with that kid for the rest of her life if she chooses. For the rest of us, being a single parent means having to work and be away from our children all day, possibly evenings too, depending on how many jobs one would need to survive.

My ranting towards single parenting, are these teen girls who just have sex because it's "cool" or they want "attention", and dont focus on thinking about the family unit as a whole before they make those decisions. Which leads to many teen guys blowing the whole thing off and not taking responsibility, leaving the girl and child to suffer. Adult women are more likely to have stuff together and be mature enough to make the best decisions for their children.

But there is also a growing trend of women in their late thirties who are not rich that are having babies without a man but are doing just fine at providing their kids with a good life. Sure, they may have to be away from their child, but not every woman wants to be a sahm and these women have enough in savings to sahm for a couple of years. These women also are making more than the average two-income family (which is about 50k/yr).

As for being away all day, Idk. I know some single moms who work only three days a week ,twelve hour shifts and have four days a week to themselves and their children and other mothers who work two sixteen hour shifts during the weekend and have five days off a week to be with their children (called the Baylor plan).

As for teen pregnancy, teen pregnancy is at its lowest it has been in about seventy years.

Children in our society are now exposed to so much sexual content through the media it's disgusting.
I personally have seen more than one 20 something ladies on here comment on how about sex feels good but they don't like BC so they'll just deal with the repercussions of it later. That is now what they intend to instill within their own children. How about teaching your children that sex is a huge thing. That yes it does feel good, but in no way shape or form is a 16 year old, let alone a 13 year old able to deal with the possible repercussions of being sexually active. That if you aren't willing or smart enough to use protection don't have sex. But even then protection isn't 100%.

That's why I specifically stated above that I was speaking of teen mothers being single, not older women............... Obviously teen mothers will not be able to make 50k a year.... I personally dont think it's ideal to raise a child on your own. Smurf happens, but I personally would do everything to avoid that. I need the support from another parent. And it's not always about money. If someone is at work all day and their kids are shuffled around at daycare (which sucks, because I'm there)... I"m not there to teach mine everything I want and raise her the way *I* want, because I"m stuck at work. Someone else is working on raising her.

Id love to work 2 16 hour shifts, or even 3 or 4 days a week. Unfortunately, many employers dont really offer that schedule too often.

And while teen pregnancy is not as prevalent as it has been previously... it's still staggering to think about what it was decades ago and what it is now. I don't think it's taboo still. I think it's just... commonplace for an unwed teen mother to give birth in today's society.

I was a teen mom. It wasn't as common place for me because I was from a small town. I got frowned upon like there was no tomorrow.
My Mom made the mistake of not talking to me about how serious the consequences of being sexually active are. I have and intend to continue to instill those values into my own daughters, who are now teens/pre teens.
