I am in major need..

of some support.

Tuesday night, my 2 month old son was admitted to the hospital because RSV. Not to mention, my grandma had kidney cancer, her kidney removed, and now is recovering from kidney failure so she's been in the hospital for weeks. I have never been more worried in my life. My son coughs so hard he throws up and then chokes on the throw up, causing him to not be able to breath. He coughs so hard and for so long, he can't catch his breath. I put him in his crib so I can go pee or get a drink, and he immediately starts coughing. I put him down, lay down in my bed, he coughs, and I jump up to make sure he's okay. When he's laying down and he's quiet, I worry even more.

This monitor blares every time he coughs because his heart rate shoots up to 220. It's flashing that he had a 10 second apnea spell. The nurses keep telling me he isn't severe and that he sounds great. But....He looks and sounds so sick, so I can't help but think that "great" isn't a good way to describe him.

I feel like something is wrong with him and everyone looks to me to fix it. And I can't. I don't know how to make him stop coughing, or make him start eating. I feel like if he were to stop breathing at home, I wouldn't know what to do.

Part of me wants them to discharge us so that we can be home...and another part wants them to keep us so I know he is close to help.

Sorry. I've just been feeling extremely stressed and bawling my eyes out at the drop of a dime.

How has he been since he has been admitted to hospital ie: when he gets put down is he doing the same things?
Have the put a tube down his throat to see if he has a hernia, anything wrong with his eosophagus or are they ruling it down to bad reflux?
You need to be firm and push them to give you some answers and tell them that he is not okay, only a mother knows her child and you obviously know there is something more going on.

He has been good and bad. I mean...No hernia, no reflux, just a moderate case of RSV. He's really mucous-y so it's causing him to have coughing fits and congestion in his nose. No fever since the hospital visit. Coughing fits ever so often, especially after eating. I know what's wrong with him, I just hate that it's taking so long to get over it....

On a good note, we're getting released today. Which means I can use the cool mist humidifier on him which always seemed to calm his coughing fits down. I just need to get through the next few days...........

Sorry somehow missed the RSV part (preg brain lol). Yeah my brother was 3 months premie and got it my mum used to put a small amount of vicks or eucalpytus into the humidifier while it was in his room and it aparently used to help so much. Make sure that after a feed you keep him upright for at least 30 mins to allow the food to settle into his tummy support him and keep him as straight as possible. Poor wee thing i hope he gets better really soon

Yeah. I'm going to make a trip to walmart to find something to put in the humidifier. They gave me a prescription for some nasal decongestant drops.

We just got home, I fed him 2 ounces..He started coughing really bad and spewed it out of his nose. His eyes were rolling into the back of his head and he was panicking, I finally got the sucker and sucked it all out. Scared me to death!

We were released Wednesday and by Thursday he was so much better!! He still has a cough, but it's not nearly as bad as it was. And the runny nose has pretty much dried up. I suppose he'll be back to normal in 2 days, tops!! Such a relief.
