Ty for posting that. Looks like normal humans talking,we all need to vent sometimes. If I was in her shoes I would make my FB set to friends only. I don't understand why she has it open for the world to see.

most hospital and licensing boards have standards of conduct and if violated one would lose the job and the ability to practice anymore. Free speech does not apply here. By virture of the fact that they are licensed, they agreed to abide by those standards and violation of the standards have negative outcomes.

I didn't know that. I still don't agree with it,but if she knew about the rules she shouldn't have vented on FB. You learn something new everyday.

saying names isn't the only way to violate hipaa..anything that can be used to identify someone is a violation of hipaa...he gave some of her history and said she had a still birth prior...It's debatable

it was in response to the post about sometimes you give up certain freedoms when you are licensed.

if so talks about a certain patient on hall blah blah blah and anyone can figure it out then it is a violation of hippa

She should be fired and listed as not allowed to work in any profession that requires confidentiality. I don't know if you have any official rules in the US but I work in Social Services in the UK and we have to follow the "Codes of Conduct". They cover right from the very highest member of staff right down to the bottom, every single member and you absolutely cannot speak like that about your job. It covers Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Support Workers, Care Assistants, absolutely every service that looks strictly at confidentiality is Governed very strongly by the "Codes of Conduct". If you behave in a manner like that you would be sacked immediately and you would basically be put on the "unemployable list". Basically everyone in the UK that works in Social/Health care has to by law be registered on a list and if you are sacked/investigated/etc all the information is on it. By law someone cannot employ you unless they have checked that list and you are completely clear and by law that company has to keep that list up to date on you whilst you are employed with them.

Had that happened here the procedure would be she would immediately be called into a disciplinary, given the nature of what she had done it would go straight to Stage 3 - instant dismissal, the system/list would be updated and she wouldn't be able to get employment in Social/Health services again.

I don't think she should be fired, but it is extremely unprofessional and if she were my doctor I would be switching. I know she didn't use names HERE, but if she's saying that kind of thing publicly I wouldn't doubt if she is using names elsewhere.

I don't think it's a big deal. She's just frustrated with a woman who has wasted her time repeatedly, she's just a normal person venting about her stressful job. Perhaps she should have just texted a friend about it instead. But still. I think this is blown WAY out of proportion and is not a big deal in the least. I think it's silly this is even causing controversy. And I think it was a funny joke, made me smile. And if I was her, I would have dropped her as a patient after being late more than 3 times. Any time I was even 10 minutes late, I always called the office and told them I was about to be there.

Being a OBGYN she should have just known better. If she had been less specific and something like "If you want to show up to my appointments 3 hours late can I show up to your delivery 3 hours late?" I think it would have been totally different.

Its just a big no no to talk about patients and they preach it hard at my husbands med school. Most of the students actually just got rid of their facebooks all together...And when you are in a professional situation like that it's probably best so these things don't happen.

ETA: With all that being said in the "normal" would it def. got blown all out of proportion.

I don't see a problem. She didn't name names, and she was just venting her job frustrations. I see that all the time.

medical informatio is supposed to be very protected..those saying it's not a big deal probably don't work in the medical field..It's drilled in our heads how dangerous this is and it's a huge no no..she def knew better
