Formula Weening?

posted 7th Feb
At what age can babies get off formula? My daughter is coming up on a year & she is purely formula fed. She never took to baby food and she only likes bottles. When do i start making her only eat table food?

12 months is the recommendation, but you need to make sure she's eating food. She needs to get the vitamins and minerals from her diet that she was getting through the formula.

You dont have to at 1. If they arent ready then you can keep her on formula. I'd talk to her Pedi about it. My son was basically formula fed till 18 months and even after that his main source was formula till after 2, he is SN however.

She should be eating table food already, IMO. Idk when they "should" be but I thought from 9 months on more foods were to be introduced. By 12 months my daughter was eating at least 3 meals a day along with her bottles. I didn't get her completely off formula until about a month ago (13.5 months) and now she drinks 3-4 11 oz sippy cups a day along with 2 sippys of water and 3 meals and 3 snacks. She is a big eater though. I would start offering foods more. Whatever you eat, mash some up and give it to her. You don't have to rush her though. Keeping her on formula longer than 12 months is fine, but definitely start introducing more foods. If she doesn't like baby food, just give her normal food.

really? at my DS 8 month checkup he was underweight and eating 2 meals a day and having 3 bottles, his health nurse said his main diet should be food and he needed to start having atleast 3 meals a day to put on the right weight and get enough nutrition for his age and he should be eating more food then bottles.

if she didn't take to baby food you could have started trying different mashed table foods. They are supposed to be off of formula at a year, but I know Gerber makes formula for toddlers now that can be used from 9-24months.

formula or breastmilk should be the main source of food until 12 months

well apparently not here, thats why my son is underweight and here they now think delaying solids like way after 6 months is making lots of infants have allergys apparently they have had a massive rise in babies with allergys since people have been delaying solids for too long.

the problem is food in general. think about what the cavemen did? or even europeans b4 processed american food. breasfed till 2-4 then bland foods no sugar or anything like that until they were teens. all of these new foods made by factories are the problem. dont get me wrong i eat horribly. but that is what is up.
