how can excessive blood loss be prevented?

posted 7th Feb
What can the dr. Or I do to prevent excessive bleeding during labor. I felt like I was going to die mins after labor with my now almost 1yr old. My bp skyrocketed due to the blood loss and I had to have 2 pints of blood. I don't want to go trough that horrible experience feeling I could leave now 2 babies and my hubby. I am 17 wks pregnant and even before finding out I was pregnant loosing too much blood or having such an eventfully dramatic painful and long labor has scared me to death.

Nothing you can do! If you have premature labor due to placental abrupt ion- this will cause excess bleeding due to early placental separation. If this is a concern, take it easy and keep off your feet. But if you are talking about minimizing bleeding in a normal, healthy pregnancy, there is nothing you can do.
Te doctor can put topical coagulant in to stop blood flow, but other than that

They can give you Methergine if you're hemorrhaging. Also, a good fundal massage can help.

Oh, and make sure you're eating foods rich in Vitamin K (green, leafy veggies).

Typically it does. Blood pressure drops, heart rate climbs.

that's what I was thinking sounds more like the after effects of an abruption due to pre-eclampsia.
OP nothing you can do but have staff there that know how to handle the bleeding quickly. I would guess they would give you large amounts of pitocin combined with methergine, hemabate, and or cytotec.

As long as your doctor knows you are taking blood thinners you should be fine. It is their job to keep you alive hun, trust that they can!
