Switching to a toddler bed from co-sleeping.

posted 7th Feb
I need tips. DD is VERY stubborn and I can just see me having to put her in her bed 5000 times a night.

Right now she sleeps with DH and I every night, but we only have a full size bed and I sleep on the very edge and almost fall off sometimes. So I think it's time to switch her. Especially since she will have her own room soon and I want her to sleep in there.

We've been co-sleeping since she was 2 months old, so I know it's going to be hard. And sad.

She's 19 months old.

It does suck. I was going to get a bigger mattress but our bedroom is going to be really small and I don't want it to take up too much room lol

First I did the crib side carred & got them used to their own sleep space a bit, then later I switched them into full sized beds & slept with them in the big bed the first few days, then slept on the futon in the room for a few days & then stayed until they were asleep for a few more days. We never did toddler beds.

omg me too hahahahha. im constantly trying to roll over when DS is on the inside and i forget i dont have any more bed to roll over on to.

Well i switched to a toddler bed by first putting his connected to ours then gradually moving it to the wall. and then into the other room. worked like a charm

With my son we had to start out laying in his twin sized bed with him until he feell asleep. Once he was more comfortable I.would sit on the edge of the bed until he was very tired. Now that he is 3 I just ask him to get into.bed and he is out in 15 minutes. It's all about comfort and reinforcing that they are still secure even though they aren't with you.

I would think moving the tot mattress into your room, having a few nights of it sitting there, then moving LO into bed after falling asleep for another few, and then putting him in it would work marvels. Then move mattress out.

We put her in her pack and play to get her used to sleeping on her own beside our bed. We moved it a bit farther away every night. Then we started making a big deal about how she was going to be getting her own big girl bed soon and showing her pictures of the bed we were getting to get her excited about it.

When the bed arrived and we got it set up we put her usual bedding and a bunch of her stuffed animals on it and spent some time reading there. We only had to put her back 3 times the first night and after that she slept in it no problem.

She won't sleep in a pack n play   We tried for a few nights and she just started climbing out.

I think also that it is already the perfect time to switch your child to a toddler bed. I bought my toddler bed at Beds Bed UK. It was affordable and offers free shipping around UK.
