Scared...

posted 7th Feb
Looks like I will be having my baby not next week at 34 weeks. I am terrified because idk how he is going to do. I got the steroid injections last week but still you don't know if that helps. I am just scared and needed to vent I guess.

Just think positive and everything will be positive. Try to stay calm and relaxed. I hope everything plays out well for you, and baby.

Awe hell be fine. You'll have a nice stay but it shouldn't be too bad. More than likely the most hell need is the nasal oxygen and an iv and some Bili lights. 34 weekers do just fine in the long run as well compared to full term babies they just have a rougher start. See if you can talk to the nicu staff before you have him to see what to expect. *hugs* hell be just fine

Thank you! It's been an ongoing battle. I was hospitalized for like 4 days and have been on bedrest for about a week and have had my BP meds uped twice and nothing is getting better. At this point my dr is more concerned about my mental stability over bubs being ok because I will be 34 weeks so he has a really good chance but I have two kids who I miss being able to just be with and play and a husband who works out of town. Just a lot of stress on me and at this point it's just making it worse. There is a slight chance I can make it further but my dr doesn't have much hope(not cause he just wants me to deliver out of convenience he is a GREAT dr and actually cares and see sees the toll this is takin on me).

Yeah he was talking about admitting me for observation next week for a few days to see if that can buy more time and I can talk to the NICU team. They saw him practicing breathing on the ultrasound when I was in the hospital and then they gave me the steroid shots so I am praying he is like his sister(I had her at 35 and she never even went to the NICU!) but I still know kinda what I am in for. Definitely still praying I can miraculously go further!

Thank you

Your story reminds me of my sis. My sis was hospitalized for a month. She too had to have her Bo med uped, but not only that, she had to be on bedrest almost the whole pregnancy and had to have her cervix stitched closed. She was a nervous wreck. But tried to remain calm for the sake of the baby. @36 weeks she had him 8 lbs 9 oz and he was fine. I understand about ur other lil ones but, I'm sure you left them in good hands. Gotta take care of yourself so you can get back to they soon as possible. Hopefully you can go longer.

I understand mama. I was hospitalized for a month leaving my 5yo at home   and had a csection at 35+4. She wasn't gonna go to nicu but her blood sugar was too low. She had to stay 3 days and it really hurt my csection recovery. I had to walk across the hospital and upstairs every two hrs cause I was dedicated to bfing her. It's been rough coming back. Im looking into therapy cause I think I may have PTSD from it all. Just do your best to buy him as much time as possible. The longer he stays in (although very hard mentally) the less hell be in nicu. The advise I was given was every day I can hold out is 2 less days she has to spend in nicu. So in the long run its less time of emotional stress to just be hospitalized. Because otherwise you may be making nicu trips every day and still having to leave your babies at home.

I hope all goes well for you and your little one. My 34 weeker was breathing pretty much on her own, had CPAP right at first. The steroid shots really did help, I think. She was under the bili lights and had an IV for about 7/8 days. Right now she is 19days and working on eating by mouth. We've been trying bottles for 2 weeks now and she is improving. Will take up to 40mls of her 60 every 3 hours depending on her mood. Some times its only 10mls before she gets tired and falls asleep. Or my favorite is when she is being rotten and is wide awake but won't eat anymore.

I know its scary and the worse is always in the back of your mind, but just think, it will be better for him and you that he is here safely and in the care of great staff in the nicu. I don't have any other kids but today marks my one month of being at the hospital between me being a patient with pre-e and now
Dylan's stay in the nicu. Stay strong momma!!

Thanks everyone. I am just nervous because I still want to breast feed and I want it to go well but I know if he has to go to the NICU it's gonna be a rough start.

I was hospitalized for 6 weeks and had my girls at 34 weeks. They mainly had issues learning to feed (suck, swallow, breathe). One had CPAP for 36 hours, which was the scariest. But all in all they were just fine and we were discharged from the NICU in 2 weeks.

My second child was born at 34 weeks and was in the NICU for six days. No breathing help, no feeding tubes, only IV fluids and I didnt get any steroid shots for his lungs before he came but he did great. Im sure your baby will do great as well. I was surprised how well mine did. Good luck!

You CAN still bf mama. Just stick with no bottles. I did not allow my dd to get bottles. I purchased donor milk because I didn't want any formula
In her system. She only used a feeding tube and nursed. He may not be able to nurse at 34 weeks but mine was 35+4 and nursed right away. They are weak nursers at first but get a LC to help. Mine was amazing. She showed me how to encourage her to suck and not fall asleep. Her muscles strengthened fast and she was able to eat better and better. They should give you a hospital grade pump so as much as your milk as possible can feed him through the feeding tube.
