Mandatory abortion

posted 7th Feb
Should it be mandatory for insurance to cover abortions if they are not medically necessary?

It would save companies a lot of money. I don't care either way though.

No. Elective procedure.

Although, with the topic "mandatory abortion," I thought this was going to be about something completely different.

But yeah...it's a medical procedure.

Nah. Most insurance companies don't cover most elective procedures.

for the sake of the argument, I've had one "elective" C-section, a cyst removal, a tonsillectomy, and a wisdom teeth extraction that were all covered by insurance.

That's a good point. My wisdom teeth surgery was expensive I had them knock me the smurf out and it wasnt a "needed" procedure they just suggested I have it done.

I feel like there should be a process to go through because I can definitely see people abusing that. I know some girls who have had 5 or more abortions. It shouldn't be used as birth control.

Oh yeah I needed to be knocked the smurf out too when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was awake for one of them, and it was smurfing hell

Same here. I had it done, because it was recommended, not needed.

I totally thought this was going to be about something else too...

Anyways, IMO the cyst removal, tonsillectomy, and wisdom teeth wouldn't be completely "elective" if they were causing you pain and were necessary to relieve that. Assuming that's why you had them done...

I think all birth control should be free, and probably abortions should be, too. My issue is with forcing companies to cover a procedure they may or may not agree with. I'm not really sure I'd support that.

Population control is a good thing, IMO. I'd much rather see women getting free birth control and early term abortions than having babies for the foster care system. What we're doing now isn't sustainable.

A bad cyst could create infection. Tonsillectomy prevents recurring infection. Wisdom teeth, if compacted, also could create infection. They're all preventive procedures.

Elective c-section, I won't comment, that's all your choice and if your insurance covered it, power to ya.

All of those things are true, but what I was dealing with was primarily just discomfort, and not medical emergencies.
