Anyone plan on HOMESCHOOLING ??
posted 6th Feb
it seems to me that a lot of jobs out there pay about as much as a day care will cost you, ( depending on location of course) besides that though, anyone just plan on staying home/working from home and homeschooling your children, even as they get older, possibly all through high school , until they go off to college if they deceide to.
if you do would you follow the schools curriculum, or have a laid back, child led, kinda woldorf insipred homeschool education?
I want to homeschool because of many reasons, more then i can think of at the moment lol
i think homeschooled kids are:
happier
have more time to focus on personal interests
are not expected to fit in this Box that the education systems sets for them ( if you are not following a schools curriculum)
Can finish "HS" way before the rest of her peers and/or will have time to take college courses if she wants to.
Will not have to be faced with Bullying, Drama, Fights and all that goes on in traditional schools
Will not have to wory if she is dressed "cool" enough .
will grow up trusting her choices
Give her time to enjoy the day outside on our farm -Daily - instead of sitting in school
Will be able to learn a language she desires, not one that is chosen for her by the education system
i will be in control of what she is learning.
thats some of my reasons

I wanted to home school. I was planning on home schooling until grade 6, and follow the school divisions outline. Since I would not be comfortable with teaching them high school, I would want them to be able to make friends, and understand how schools work before they got to high school. I think going to a structured school will help with University.
My Boyfriend told me no to home schooling, and my daughter told me no as well because she wants to go make friends. lol

I was planning on homeschooling and my 4 1/2 year old told me that she really wanted to go to the school instead of staying home for school.
So she's going.
We were going to follow the schools curriculum since I didn't want her to fall too far behind where she would be in a traditional school.

I homeschooled last year. It was great. For the first 6ish months. Then we wanted to murder one another, so they are back in public school this year. It works for some. Us, not so much

I really wanted to homeschool, but my daughter is a lazy student and I felt that it would be detrimental to our relationship to be her "teacher" as well as her "parent".
Why do you want to homeschool?

We're giving it serious thought. I forget what they are called but our babysitter is homeschooled and they go to a class once a week with other homeschooled kids where they turn in work and get to socialize some. And there are all sorts of sports programs and such. She's in high school and they have all sorts of classes outside of the core classes

I was always against homeschooling kids...not sure why but I was. lol
Anyways I have been thinking of opting out of kindergarten for my lo, which here starts at 3-4 yrs old must be 4 by dec 31st. Just to homeschool the kinder years. I have 3 yrs to decide. but have been planing my route on doing so. my other kids are 4 and 10 always been in public school.

I opted out of kindergarten. I didn't see a point for my daughter. She was reading and writing, knew basic numeracy....it would have been a waste of time.

ya my now 4 yr old samething, but she was obsessed with going to school. lol but they changed it know 3 yrs of kindergarten before grade 1......so my 4 yr old is in her first yr and 2 to go. so main reason I was going to opt out of it.

So, what did you do all day if you weren't doing school?

I was homeschooled for parts of my education and also helped teach my siblings. My plan is to homeschool DS PreK - 8th, then let him decide if he wants to attend a high school or not. There is also a homeschool group around here, so that makes it much easier to keep grounded when we do start. I would definitely look into seeing if there is one in your area. Support is very important when it comes to HS.
As far as curriculum, I recommend (for early education) PACES. They are little booklets that your child can complete a couple pages a day of and after working through all the booklets of a certain grade level, you can move right on to the next grade! It is a Christian-based curriculum, but you really only notice it in the little comic strips that teach about being polite and well behaved. There is some scripture memorization exercises too, but you can skip those if you want. For middle school education I recommend, Shirley English, Saxon Math, Apologia Sciences, PACES Social Studies, and some sort of handwriting course. My mother used a lot of basic resources, though to teach us our subjects. We had an encyclopaedic series called "The Annals of History" that we would read. We had several dictionaries and would also compare word definitions. We also kept a TON of classics in the house, such as Jane Austen, Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens, etc. I found that reading the abridged versions helped me to move on to the unabridged versions. Sorry, for so much info! I hope this helps, though, and your more than welcome to PM me anytime!

The smurffy school my daughter is going to now is causing her her grades. She's failing half her classes despite being gifted & talented. Because the teachers see her drawing in class instead of doing her work, and don't.say.a.smurfing.word! I'm getting sick of it so I'll probably just pull her out and homeschool her the rest of the year. We are looking to buy a house and basing it ALL on the ratings of the schools nearby to avoid this problem in the future with tween and new baby.
