Paragard after Mirena

posted 6th Feb
If anyone has had the Paragard inserted after having the Mirena, what were your cycles like? I haven't had a period or even any spotting for a few years. I've heard that sometimes periods are worse with Paragard but I've also seen that sometimes women will stop getting one, similar to Mirena. So I'm wondering if getting it inserted right after I get the Mirena taken out would increase my chances of not having periods again. This is my 5th year with Mirena and I'm due to get it out sometime towards the end of the year. I haven't had any issues with it, but I might as well go with something more long term.

I've never heard of paraguard stopping your period because it is non hormonal. Personally if you are doing well with Mirena I wouldn't switch. I had terrible experience with paraguard. Mirena and paraguard are definitely not the same thing and your body will probably react differently.

Oh I read it on the internet so it must have been true!     I just googled Paragard a while ago because I was curious. Maybe it was just that they were lighter, not gone completely?

Good advice, thank you!

It could be true for some people but I think in general paraguard is more likely to make your periods heavier. It is even listed as one of the side effects.

I wonder if it would be worse for me, then, because I haven't had one in so long? Isn't the post-Mirena period supposed to suck?

Paragard makes your periods much worse and heavier. Maybe your hormones are still adjusting after Mirena. Don't expect that to last. Lol.

Paragard made me bleed for half the month, every month.

I hate paraguard. It's been the devil for me. Forget white pants or shorts.. because you never know when you're going to bleed. My body is constantly trying to expel it leading to constant period cramps. I FREAKING HATE IT! My husband is getting the great snip on March 7th (the day before my birthday) and as far as I'm concerned it's the best birthday present ever so I can get this damn copper demon out!

Hmm well that's no good. Maybe I will just stick to what works. I'm pretty spoiled with not even hardly remembering what menstruating is like.
