High white blood cell count???

My husband is in the ER...he's been having pains in his abdomin. They did a blood test and his white bloodcell count is high so they are doing a catscan. what could be wrong???

High white blood cells means he is fighting some sort of infection.

Cat scan could mean anything, but if he's having pains in his lower stomach I would vote kidney stones.

High white blood cell count is an increase in disease-fighting cells (leukocytes) circulating in your blood. High white blood cell count is also called leukocytosis.
It just means there fighting some type of virus or disease. It happened to SO over a month ago, and they couldnt figure out what was wrong with him, so they did a spinal tap, and everything was negative.

okay, that didnt even occur to me. i'm thinking the appendix..but i have no idea. DO they do surgery for kidney stones?

Its probably his appendix if he is having pains!

Not unless they are horrible or causing major blockage. Usually you have to pass them (Ouch, seriously.) sometimes they came zap them with a laser to break them up too.

No kidney stones can be broken up with an ultrasound I think? Or they can use a catheter to help then pass

Typically unless they are very bad they dont do surgery for kidney stones. I am also thinking appendix tho so if they dont do a ultrasound I would ask for one just to be safe cause you dont want them to rupture.

Okay, thanks ladies. I'm so nervous..i hate waiting. My husband hates hospitals,he had to have surgery on his penis a year ago and it wasnt a good experience, obviously, so he's freaking out.
