Too much for health insurance?

posted 6th Feb
I've been so frustrated lately with my family's health insurance situation. Currently, We are paying $350/paycheck for our family health insurance. To some that might not seem like a ton of money but that only leaves about $1000/paycheck take home after we pay taxes and health insurance. We seriously can not afford it. I looked into other plans but I don't qualify because I am over the height/weight ratio. Paying over $9000/year for health insurance just isn't working. We are soooo broke. But will not qualify for state health insurance. Should we just drop coverage and join the uninsured? I am stressing so bad over this.

No that's honestly a reasonable price. And pretty soon everyone will be required to pay for health insurance anyways.

Id drop it. I know how bad it sucks to not have insurance, but what you are paying is RIDICULOUS.

No way Id drop coverage.

I'd use this as an incentive to drop to the bmi a cheaper insurer wants.

I'm pretty sure your LO could get state insurance. As for you and DH.... if you don't have a reason to need the insurance (surgeries, etc). Then I'd drop it. There are sliding scale clinics that you can go to if you're sick and just need a check-up and prescription.

Just because it is reasonable doesnt mean it is leaving them enough money to get by on. What company is it through?

Nobody should have to pay that. IMO.

Doesn't matter. It's breaking them financially. If they aren't using the insurance... they'd be better off to drop it and have more money to pay on bills they actually use/need.

what if there is an emergency and you end up with hospital bills in the 10 of thousands of dollars? I mean you'll be kicking yourself for getting rid of it.

If I took out insurance through my employer, I'd pay $1000 a month for a family policy.
