Anyone know anything about dog breeders?

posted 6th Feb
My SO really wants a pug and the pet store has one, I really would rather get a shelter dog... but he wants to use part of his tax return as his valentine's gift and get it.
Didn't really want to, but I met her and she has a very nice disposition.
So I told SO I'd consider it.

Now here's the question...
She had an ulcer on her eye, their vet is treating her for it. It's left scarring on her eye though.
They said they'd be willing to come down on the price...

So my question is, if a dog has visible scarring on the eye like that (and possibly needs more antibiotics) how much off do you think they'd give me?

I got $100 off my daschund for having a kinked tail. Not even life threatening or a medical issue. Purely cosmetic. My mom got $75 off her golden retriever for a possible eye issue that may need surgery someday. Like his eyes are a little droopyish. I guess it's a rare thing that can happen to them idk.

Honestly, I would think of an ulcer on her eye as an indication of more health problems to come. While pugs can be more susceptible to eye ulcers because of their facial structure, there are a lot of other causes of eye ulcers disease and infection can be some of them. Make sure you find out where the puppy came from in the first place. Often pet stores get their puppies for over crowded puppy mills.

Also pet stores have been known to barter when it comes to pets. So if the dog were healthy you could probably get at least a 100-150 off. So if you really want this dog, I would try to get 200-300 off.

Oh I know this is most likely a puppy mill dog.

We talked to our vet, he said that as long as the eye is treated correctly that it shouldn't be a problem and it wouldn't make her anymore likely to get another one than any other pug...and that pugs are just susceptible to the eye ulcers because of how far out their eyes sit. He didn't seem to think it was a major concern for the future.

Oh and maybe see if u can get a vet checkup before purchase at your own vet to confirm its treatable. A lady on here not too long ago had an issue with a breeder and her dogs eye issue. He said he'd Be fine and if not he'd pay the bills. Well she went to her vet and the vet said he'd need surgery and maybe remove his eyes completely and now the breeder is being a dick. And she has no choice but to keep tendog and endure the med bills or exchange him for a new dog Because of the contract they signed. So yeah I'd get a second opinion first if you dot want to have the possibility of ending up with high vet bills. If it doesn't matter to you then go for it. Pugs are cute

Yeah they seem to be willing, that's why I came on here just to see how much I should go for realistically. I asked the kid and he said his manager was busy but considering the eye thing he said he's sure that we'd get a discount.

I'd say saving a puppy mill dog is just as good as a shelter dog IMO. Poor baby

And that's good about the vet. But I'd still probably want him to look at it to be sure first.

Yeah, but purchasing one puppy mill dog gives the store money to buy 10 more   and just keep the puppy mill in business.

Yeah that's true. But I feel bad for the puppy it's not her fault  . It's not his fault. It's similar in my mind to the mom who has her kids all taken away but keeps having more kids. While its wrong I still feel bad for the kids.
