ultrasound

posted 6th Feb
Someone just told me that at ultrasounds they don't check for abnormalities or "deformities" such as Cleft Lip/Palate (which both my dad and brother have...) With DS they did... has that changed? I wouldn't think it has, but... maybe? Another thing. If I were to just schedule another ultrasound, without a doctor's referral, how would I go about that? Because if she doesn't set me up for one in the next month, my ass is going to PAY for one. Because I'm tired of feeling like I'm just being pushed to the side and watching everyone else find out what they are having. It's irritating when I see someone due in AUGUST finding out what they are having... while I'm being told "Oh, you have to wait because they can't tell yet." bullsmurf they can't! -_- anyway. sorry about that. And excuse the language. (We're all mostly adults here...) I know this is probably a stupid question, but still., It's a valid question. <3 hope everyone has a wonderful day and rest of the week!

Did they schedule you another u/s? Remember the longer u wait the more accurate. People who find out too early run the risk of not feeling sure about the sex. Especially if you're told girl. Lots of people find out later that it's about when they find out too early it's a girl.

I thought they would check. I saw a peri and he always checked the upper lip at each u/s. but his job is to be thorough so im not sure if that has to do with why he checked. You'd think they would with family history of it

I haven't been scheduled for one yet. Basically she told me I probably won't get one until March. I will be 20 weeks as of NEXT (not upcoming) Monday. I'm just super antsy and want to know for sure that everything is okay with my baby. I want to be more prepared for it since there's still that chance (not sure of percentile...) you know? Instead of just preparing myself of the possibility... I want to know for sure, that way I can prepare myself to have my child operated on and all that. (Which, who is really prepared for their child to have an operation of any sort?!)

I don't blame you. That'd be traumatizing to not be prepared for such a thing   I can't imagine.

That's a long time for another u/s  I'd ask usually they do them at 20 weeks.

I'm 20 weeks and 3 days and just found out yesterday what I'm having. My doc doesn't schedule ultrasounds til 19-20. The further along the more accurate. You can set up a 3d ultrasound yourself it's about $85. At least with both the ones I had done. I'm not sure how much they are where you are at.

yeah I'm not sure how much a 3D ultrasound here would cost. I would have to look into it, because I'm sure insurance doesn't cover it. (if it's not medically ordered, right?) DH is wanting to go on and try and get one done, but I don't think they'll do it til later on where they can really see.

Where I got mine done you pay out of pocket. Its not a medical center. They recommend you to be between 27-32 weeks along but they will see you as early as 16 weeks.

That's what one of my friends told me. She actually works at an OBGYN office. I'm hoping I can get one with this pregnancy. I didn't get one with DS though I really wanted to.
