Name Sound/Meaning Importance

When you personally pick out names are you won over by them because of it's sound and look or because of the meaning? DH wants an Irish name if we have a girl but I'm torn between names that I hate the sound & look of but love the meaning and vise versa. I'm having a hard time choosing where I am willing to compromise.

i in no way picked cameron out for the meaning because it means crooked nose lol i just liked the name itself

I need both. If I hate the way it sounds then it doens't matter what it means. Likewise, if it sounds nice, but means something really horrible then I probably wouldn't choose it either.

I think both. It has to look and sound well together and it has to have a good meaning..

we always researched the name meanings of names we liked, and if the meaning still made sense to us, we kept it. the only exception is my youngest daughter's middle name.. it means bitter.. but I named her after my grandmother so we kept it. our oldest daughter we actually changed the spelling of her name to make it more Irish...

I picked Aria because I liked the sound of it, its not super popular around here, and it has ties to music (being a solo in an opera and all) and music is a huge part of me and SO's life. so I guess both? lol.

Eh. I liked my oldest sons name for how it sounded paired with its strong meaning.

My daughters name was purely for sound. The name doesn't mean much. It is, however, Scottish which is my family's background.

Our youngest I liked the first name for how it sounded and the middle is a family name.

SO picked out Hailey for our first child, I joked around with him saying that she's going to kill him because her name means hay field,(he has hay fever)

I picked it out for all of the reasons. My daughter is onalee (on-ah-lee). And it means beautiful and favoured grace. I loved all of it.

I liked Lola but was turned off it because my baby names book said it was a promiscuous name. Don't know how they got that conclusion...

I honestly had to like everything about the names we picked, I wouldn't settle for less haha.

I didn't pick LO's name because of the meaning, I picked it because of the way it sounded. I would never pick a name that I hated the sound of JUST because of the meaning.

If the meaning is something absolutely terrible like the meaning of lillith then that would put me off but otherwise im not to bothered id prefer it to have a nice meaning but im not overly concerned...
