Insured vs. uninsured.. (just curious)

posted 6th Feb
With my last pregnancy, I didn't have insurance. I had to go to a free clinic to get a pregnancy test and, even though they never straight up told me to get an abortion, they were strongly insinuating that I should. They went on about how much money I'd save if I didn't have a kid, and how likely I was to live a successful life with a child (pretty much just kept throwing statistics in my face). With this pregnancy, I'm insured. I went to my PCP for a pregnancy confirmation and he immediately congratulated me and was excited for me, not once did anyone talk to me about how a child would financially ruin me. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to my "uninsured" story, or is it just the whackjob "doctors" I went to..?

I went to a doctor with my first pregnancy, who told me my abortion would be next week at 3pm.
Because I told her I wasn't married.

I had insurance.

I think it's just crazy ass doctors.

I have no stories, but I'd bet that free clinics deal with it more often. Abortions are very often due to financial reasons, so a lot of women will go to a free clinic first. Also, if a woman is in a bad relationship or needs to hide the pregnancy, again, a free clinic may be a better option.

I don't think they should shove it down anyones throat, but I'd guess that's why free clinics give that option a lot more then PCP. Not to mention most PCP probably don't do abortions.

I'm going with whack job doctors. I was un insured with my first and they still congratulated me and helped me to get set up with a doctor.

I had insurance, and my doctors were acting like I was horrible for getting pregnant again (I am married with 4 kids). they kept asking why I wasn't on BC, and suggesting I get fixed or get an IUD (I have done neither of these)

I got a test at a free clinic before I had insurance (I was actually getting the test to prove I was pregnant) and they all congratulated me. Every single nurse in the building lol. I was 18. I was married though? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Very difficult! Cost her alot of business because I told this story everywhere I could, including an article in the newspaper.

I wasn't married (I'm still not married) but my fiance' (who was just my boyfriend at the time) just about ran in there and raised hell when I told him what all they had said to me. I was only nineteen, and didn't have a stable job, but they didn't know anything about my financial situation so I dunno where they felt the need to say such things to me.

I had insurance with both my pregnncies. But my mom and dad did not have insurance when pregnant with me or my brother and they had people acting like that to. My mom said they actually straight out told her she should have an abortion. It's so messed up. Yeah we were poor as kids but things got better and my dad worked hard and got a really good job and we moved into a nie house and things got tons better (never rich but we were middle class) People never know what will happen.. so encouraging people like that just because at the moment they are down and out is wrong.

I was uninsured (have Medicaid now but I had to cut my hours in half to qualify) and I go to a free clinic. I was congratulated but I'm also married. I do hear a lot of young moms who go where I go are given a hard time or kinda looked down upon. I think that's so dumb.

Yeah, that's ridiculous to just assume you were getting an abortion based on their views. I don't blame you for spreading the word, I would have too. Unfortunately, my place was just a smurffy free clinic. I'm sure they do see a lot of teen moms coming in there who are looking for that option, but I wasn't one of them..
