re: Chicago PD will not respond

posted 8th Feb
It's happening almost everywhere. people want their taxes to pay for parks, but not cops. These are voting issues and time and again, citizens won't for the taxes (which are REALLY small, actually) to keep more police on patrol or available.

Everyone's broke. Welfare is skyrocketing and cops are hard to find. See a pattern here?

YES EXACTLY!

Our city residents were pissed that homeowners taxes went up $40/year so as not to have to cut the police force...yet they voted for a $2 million reconstruction of a community center. SmUrfING IDIOTS.

If there is ever anything I will pay taxes (happily) for, IT'S COPS AND FIREMEN. People's priorities are SO screwed up. It's sad.

Then they complain when it takes too long for their call to get responded to.

...am I the only one thinking you shouldn't be calling 911 to report a non-emergency crime anyway?

Nah, you aren't. People overuse 911 like they overuse the emergency room.

It's not just happening for 911 calls. I, about a year ago, saw a domestic dispute get very violent. It led to an almost 80 year old man getting the crap kicked out of him. It took the cops 4 hours to respond. They apologized for the time it took them but explained that there was ONE cup on duty and he had to wait for backup from the sheriff's dept. This was at about 11am on a Tuesday. It's pretty bad.

Not as bad as it's been. In 1990 your pop was 2,783,726 & there were 851 homicides. Current google pop puts you now at 2,707,120. So while it is worse than in recent years, it is far from the worst it's been.

In 1974 it was 970 homicides.

None of it is good OBVIOUSLY - but I think media loves hype. I also think they love to act like Chicago's gun laws will save the day when realistically they have in the past been able to bring their murder rate WAY down without ever needing to remove gun rights before.

It surprises me that you advocate gun rights. Surprises me in a good way.

Chicago is angry about this? This of all things? They need to be angry about those 533 murders last year and the 40 something murders in this year alone. Besides...why do you need the cops unless its an emergency situation? File a police report and get the hell on.

You must have been AWOL on every gun rights discussion that has come up. I said long ago in these debates, if you think I am a dem it is from your own conjuring, not because I've ever said so.

Must've been. Maybe I'd seen your stance before but don't remember.

My comment wasn't because I thought you were a "dem". Besides, lots of dems support the second amendment so...

I used to think that way BUT, many, many communities dont have a way of contacting police except for 911.
In some places the police cars have the number but in most places that i have been for the past few years, it says call 911.
911 IS only for emergencies. I think chicago is saying they arent going to respond to non-emergencies even if you call on another line.
