First postpartum period

posted 6th Feb
I'm 7 weeks postpartum and since six weeks I started my period, I think it sure looks and feel like it. My doctor said it looked like a period at my check up. Well I'm having pretty bad cramps and a bunch of blood. I'm not filling a pad in a hour but every time I pee the toilet is just red as hell. And I stand up and feel gushes. I just started the mini pill at 6weeks. Is this normal for my first period after birth

Sounds normal. My first period was very heavy and lasted about 3 weeks.

Sounds normal. My first pp period was like that. It was like a scene from the shining every time I went to the bathroom.

Did you actually stop bleeding and then start again?

Because my midwife said I was probably having my first PP period at 6 weeks (even though I'm EBF) and on ultrasound it turned out to be a fragment of placenta left in my uterus. It could be your period but when I saw an OB they wanted to know if there was a discernible stop in my bleeding or not and there wasn't, I've just been continually bleeding for 8 weeks now.

That's exactly what happened to me. It tapered off to just spotting, but never stopped, and then picked up again.

The midwife had a difficult time delivering my placenta and I know it broke apart when she pulled it out...she still didn't think it was likely that there was anything in there and she almost didn't order the U/S. The only reason she did was that I was planning on getting Mirena put in.

Can you tell if all of my placenta is out by a picture, I took one

I can't, no, but the midwife/doctor who delivered your baby should be able to. I don't know why they didn't do an ultrasound on me right away, considering she had such a difficult time with my placenta and I hemorrhaged pretty badly. If yours came out all in one piece and intact you should have nothing to worry about, I was just throwing that out there so you were aware.
