Same sex marriage (Dr.Phil)

Watching an old Dr. Phil episode on OWN today. They're discussing both sides of the same-sex marriage debate. You could say I'm for it. I have the "To each their own" attitude.

They showed a clip where they asked a few bystanders at a rally what their stand on it was. What one man said really stood out to me.
"They want equality, but they only speak of it in terms of same sex. What about polygamy? Pedophilia? Beastiality or necrophilia?"

I mean he kind of has a point, but there's no absolute way to have absolute equality unless we make all types of sexual relationships legal. And obviously some of those types are wrong, disgusting, and disturbing to most. If we make same-sex legal then who's going to start a movement next? A man who wants to marry his dog? An older woman who wants to marry a 12-year old boy? We will never be able to make everyone happy. There will never be complete equality.

Just my opinion. His statement made me really think about it.

I think two consenting adults should be able to marry whoever they want and hell have as many spouses as they want. Animals and children cannot consent.

same sex marriage wouldnt hurt anyone and all parties can offer legal consent.

We will never be able to please everyone -- however, you can't compare two CONSENTING humans marrying one another to someone marrying an animal or an underage child IMO.

I think that guy was a moron. Marriage between two consenting adults is not even close to the same as someone raping an animal.

A majority of society holds homosexuality as a non-deviant behavior, that's why.

Homosexuality had (and still is for some people and places) been considered deviant behavior much like pedophilia and bestiality. We still condemn people who have sex with children and animals as a society so it wouldn't be legalized unless the majority accepted it.

As for polygamy, I think it's just too much of a headache for the courts to deal with and that's why they don't look at making it legal to marry a bunch of wives or husbands.

I think the key flaw in that argument is that marriage as it stands now requires legal age and mutual consent. So that still being a requirement would rule out all of those possibilities except for polygamy. Neither a dead person, a child, nor an animal can give legal consent, so it's not really an issue. I can't say I understand polygamy personally, but I really don't see how it hurts anybody. That's how I feel about gay marriage as well.

He doesn't have a point. Pedophilia is not between two consenting adults. Beastiality is not between two consenting adults. Duh

Polygamy + 2 = not equal
Pedophilia = someone who cannot legally make their own decisions

Gays want to be able to due together and not have to worry that their partners family hates them and takes everything they worked for, and doesn't let them have a say where they're berried, or how. They also deserve the same tax breaks as other married couples. It's marriage to another consenting adult so the tax filing SHOULD be the same. They just don't allow it.

Gays are consenting adults. Comparing them to innocent children being raped is so stupid I can't even handle it.

My comment disappeared when I added the video   Anyway, anyone who can compare two consenting adult men marrying to a grown man with a child on a serious insane. It is ridiculous to even think they are comparable. Now polygamy, idgaf if it's legal or not. Not gonna hurt my marriage any, so long as all parties are consenting.

I see gay marriage as equal rights for two consenting adults. Beastiality does not concern two consenting adults and children aren't adults so they can't give consent either. It's ridiculous that if you like the opposite sex you have rights but if you like the same sex you don't. Also ridiculous to compare gay people and pedophiles.
