re: Please tell me this is okay and normal? And wtf??

posted 6th Feb
It's normal to feel that way. And like the other ladies said, it's unnecessary to check dilation because it means nothing. You could be completely closed up and 0% effaced and go into labor in an hour. Or you could be 4cm but not go into labor till 42 weeks, just never know.

If my doctor suggested it was okay to do that I'd flip, and not go to him again for my next pregnancy, that's for sure.

I'd never go back to that doctor again. He's very uneducated. One momma on here recently just had her baby, labor started on it's own, and her little on is in the NICU and they told her she's 37+ weeks, she told them no she's 36.

They wouldn't induce me until I was at least 38 wks and I had gestational diabetes with my 2 kids. However I was induced at 38 wks with my son because I was at risk for a clot in my leg. I'm pregnant with my 3rd and chose midwives this round, and every time they checked me they told me I would have some discomfort or even cramping, my uterus is very vascular so I would even have pink spotting after (that wouldn't last long).

I mean he's been great and everything made me comfortable, and explained things too. But after he said that I was like um I want him to stay as long as he wants. I am not going to induce labor or try to anyway. I only have a few weeks. I don't think they will check again until 38 weeks (not sure). I don't mind the checking, I was just like wtf is he doing suggesting me when I am 35 weeks and 5 days to go ahead and try to jump start everything. I told my SO what my doctor said through text and he thought I meant like yayyy my doctor said Ican try to go into labor. He got mad, he was like Let him stay as long as he wants, let him come when he is ready. I was like I am not going to try to start labor, I was just telling you what he said. I am glad SO is concerned to. I won't be able to switch doctors so I will be with them until he comes. But I know if he asks if I want to be induced if he hasn't come at 40 weeks then I will refuse. I want him out when he wants to. I won't be pregnant again that I know of...unless I get a whoopsababy ;) since SO doesn't want anymore. But I was just surprised!!! Don't worry ladies he won't be coming soon at least that I know of  ! I don't think they are contractions just pressure...thank gosh you all said it's okay to feel that

It is very normal! And To naturally induce labor...it won't even work unless your body is ready to go into labor. Natural would be walking...sex...stimulation of nipples, certain herbs and spices! Its all natural but like I said it won't work unless your body is ready. Its not like he would be "forcing" the baby out with medicine...and he said it's your choice too

It can be dangerous to "OVER COOK" a baby just as well as "under cook" lol if you know what I mean by that.

Yeah without proper monitoring. But I don't know of a doctor that wouldn't be seeing their patient 2 times a week at that point HOPING they'll pop haha.

Normal. I am 34 weeks and just got the Group B Strep test done, and checked for dilation yesterday. I am still SO sore today, My vagina hurts like crazy. The exams just irritated your cervix.

My dr did that exact thing to me at 36 weeks with my daughter... im pretty sure he stripped my membranes without my knowledge and i immediately went into cramp mode... then the next morning was in labor all day lost mucus plug... my water broke and had her an hour later! Pay attention to the pains and if u contract dont assum BH... Time them! And follow ur gut. if i wouldnt have i would have had a breech baby at home or in the car... my labor was only 45 minutes... I went from nothing to fully dilated on my own that fast! Good luck!!

Don't over cook what ever u do! My doc let me go until 17 days over my due date. But I have to say I walked into the hospital in labor and didn't know it (night of my induction) and when it came to pushing so was so ready. So I wouldn't try to force baby out unless he's ready but don't let him let u go to far!

I was checked after my waters broke (slightly different but id had no contractions or anything) and I was fully closed etc but wentninto labour right away, 3 mins apart etc. I wouldnt recommend having a pelvic exam to anyone unless youre ready to have the baby. They never do it here x

whatttt? i mean you want the baby to bake as long as it can(: atleast till 40 weeks! i guess he just means if you want to get a head start, but still.. i had cooper at 37 but it was due to preeclampsia :/ i deff wouldn't try to rush things, no matter what the doctor says (unless it's for a medical reason) that baby will know when he is ready(; and yes it is normal to feel pain, i never did however, but i read online a lot, and tons of girls have said they feel tons of pain after getting their cervix checked.

He probably said it was okay because a lot of women this close to their due date get anxious and antsy and want their baby now. He was probably trying to reassure you that IF you wanted to start naturally trying to induce, that the baby would be okay and he wouldn't be worried too much. Which he probably knows that most likely none of them will actually cause you to go into labor, just help you get a move on and get it closer.
NOT saying that I agree with him, I'm 37 weeks and soooo ready for LO to get here, but I want her to come when SHE's ready not when I am ready.

I mean I am of course already SUPER uncomfortable, and I would love to meet him. But my mom didn't force me into this world, I came when I was ready  , so I want my son to have the same experience. Oh and I WON'T want to go past 42 weeks! I don't think I will, I have a feeling he might come on his own a little early maybe by a week or so. But if I do get to 41 weeks I will begin my own self induction methods lol the bouncy ball and all that other jazz to hope he's out on his own by 42. I do however think my due date is actual less then it should be as in I think I may even be a week further then what they are telling me I am. But I did tell him that my baby will come when he is ready. SO said I need to let him stay as long as he wants, and I did explain if he does stay in my womb to long it can cause problems for him so I don't want to be over 2 weeks of my EDD. But I won't be trying to get labor jumpstarted for at least another 3 weeks. If I do then I want to be 39 weeks when I start my extra walking and all of that. Oh plus ladies I got my last 4 weeks of class to finish   I don't need him to pop out and me not even be done with the last 4 weeks of my 7 weeks course lol! I wanna be done with my class which ends 4 days prior to my due date....soooo it's safe to say I won't be begging to hard for him to come out unless I get to 42 weeks lol   Thanks for all of the advice I feel a little better now that it's been several hours since he checked me.
