tubal is less than 2 wks away..

posted 6th Feb
So I'm having my tubal done soon... and I'm starting to freak out... my baby is 2 mo old... and we are doing great breastfeeding.. and I've finally weened him off formula completely. This is my issue tho and y I'm worried... I don't pump... and I don't think I'm going to save up enough milk between now and then... and also I'm worried about the anesthesia.. is that going to harm the baby if I breastfeed... and the pain killers.... I'm so worried I'm gonna have. To put him back on formula and I don't want him having it... I don't know what's gonna happen... aanyone else been thru this? I'm so worried I can barely sleep at night my mind just races..

I had my appendix remove while I was breast feeding, they didn't give me any pain killers that would harm baby, but I pumped and dumped while I was in the hospital, they even gave me a pump to use while here. Just start pumping with every feeding for when you are gone. And go back to feeding when you're home.

But that means he's gonna have to have formula while I'm in the hospital....

Not if you start pumping now. Have him nurse from one side and pump the other. Switch each time you feed.

I agree with this - pump on one side while nursing on the other.

OP, I understand not wanting to use formula, but if you have to use a little, so be it, it's only temporary.

I hope I get enough... back when I was pumping I could only get like an ounce from each side... my baby eats A LOT and is always hungry....

While baby is eating it should stimulate the other breast too. You may get more doing it manually or by hand yourself. Don't worry about it. If baby needs the formula it's not going to harm baby.

I have to be put under general anesthesia for a D&C tomorrow...my OB told me I would only have to pump & dump for a few hours afterwards, and then I could resume breastfeeding.

Like others said, try pumping while baby is eating from one side. But if you have to give formula for one or two feedings, it's not the end of the world.
