Advice any GD positive moms

posted 6th Feb
Last month I had the glucose test. I was told a couple of hours later I would need to do the 3 hour test which was scheduled later that week. I was told if they do not call me then everything was ok. So for a whole month I heard nothing back from them. I went to the dr on Monday and was informed that I am GD positive and that is all I was told. No diet management or anything. I was written a presc for the glucose meter and scheduled to come back in 2 weeks for my 32 week sonogram. Well this morning the only decent nurse in that drs office called me and after a lengthy conversation she was upset that I hadn't been cared for properly and got right on scheduling me for more appt and other things. So I have another appt tomorrow making 2 in one week.

At this point I am getting really scared because I have never had this before and this is my 6th preg. I know my age is a factor as I was told. But I am mortified! On Mon the inconsiderate dr informed me either I get my glucose under control or I am at high risk for a C section and since all my babies were born vaginally, that scared me to death! She did not tell me how to prevent a c section tho. I felt like I was diagnosed and shoved in the dark to figure out on me own.

Has anyone else ever had to deal with GD? And should I be worried? I have monitored my levels but they are always too high regardless how I try to prevent it. There is a possibility I will be induced at 37-38 weeks or before which I am ok with since all my babies were induced. But this GD scares me. And the fact I havent even been tested for strep B and pre eclampsia yet and I have a istory of those too

What are your levels normally at? Can you ask for a recommendation for a nutritionist?

Its too bad youre so far along, Id say its time to find a new doctor   What a smurffy thing to be left in the dark about. Good thing is, its super manageable. You could look up diets until you can get in to see a nutritionist.

I got diagnosed with this my second pregn. (Currently still doing it) my dr started having me test 7 times a day. Start of the day. Before after every meal and right before bed. If my levels weren't under control then he would put me on insulin. Luckily I got them handled. They sent me to a diabetes class and nutritionist. First off no tea or pop unless its diet. And milk or fruit was hard on some moms levels in the morning. (Didn't seem to affect me) basically your allowed three small meals. And three snacks. Its all part of a carb exchange. The goal is to keep your carbs around the same. And not go high or low. They sent me home with tons of info and a layout of what can and can't be eaten. My insurance covered the class. Maybe you should see if they can offer you one?? If your dr was doing the same plan mine was I could mail you all these papers I got. Also if your testing 2 hrs after a meal they claim walking right after eating will help lower levels. And basically what sugar you don't use baby does. So that's why the csection risk goes up. You can totally do this mama! Just gotta get you the right info. Shame on that drs office!

Go see a nutrisionist or call a diabetic care center. Call your ob and demand they refer you to someone. Then call other doctors in your area and switch. Proper medical care is extremely important for you right now! In so mad for you I can't stand it! Make a food journal of everything you eat during meals and snacks. I had to keep my carbs for snacks under 15g and meals I got 30g or up to 40g I think I it was dinner. I vaginally delivered my baby at 39 weeks she was 6 lbs 5 oz. if you keep it under control you should not need a csection in my opinion. Good luck!

Well I was given numbers to go by but mine are always way higher, like if it's supposed to be 90 first thing in the morning, mine has been topping around 102-104- And at dinner it's supposed to be less than 120 and my highest was last night at 129. And because I have gained so much weight and had BP issues as well I think they are just wanting to make sure now that everything goes smoothly.

I wish I had switched drs from the start when I noticed I wasnt getting the care I feel I should. I used these drs for my first 2 but switched when I was preg with my 3rd and so on.

I have an appointment to meet with a nutritionist and hopefully fig out how to manage this on a safe level.

Thats really not that bad at all! I remember when I would give in and eat pancakes for breakfast, my levels would be in the 170's, haha. You sound like youre just about right, like I said look up a gd diet until you can get in to see a nutritionist. Just remember meats, cheeses and veggies are "free", so you can eat as much as you want. I about lived on string cheese and steamed lunchmeats.

You're most likely going to be just fine. I was GD positive and had to give myself needles of insulin 5 times a day. I didn't start caring for it until I was about 30 weeks. But my baby wasn't too big at all, 7lb 10oz and perfectly healthy. His sugar was low a few times but all I had to do was feed him and it only lasted 24 hours. Don't freak yourself out. Everything will be great just watch your carbs

We're on the same boat right now. Monday I had my glucose test and this morning (Wednesday) a nurse from my OB's office called that they need to see me today and I already had a feeling of what it was. My blood sugar was 256 wayyy to high. On my first pregnancy I was on borderline of having GD. My OB referred me to Healthy Start to monitor my diet. Also, they going to send someone on friday to show me how to use the glucose meter since I have to check my blood sugar 4 times a day now. My OB wants to see me a week from today together with my logsheet. They also gave me a book to read and guidelines to manage my diet. Ugghh this is gonna be a 2 1/2 months of fun.

I have managed to get them down for the most part. Morning seems to be the one I am struggling most with. Working with a nutritionist who showed me how to control my blood sugar levels thru the carbs I eat.Doing good so far tho mornings are still a struggle. I think I got this

It IS scary tho, I won't lie. I am almost done with this pregnancy and it's my last but I really want her to be healthy. I get 4 more sonograms and Im on weekly dr visits now. To anyone experiencing this for the first time, watch your carbs as much as your sugar. Drink lots of water. Mine is working out with proper diet control thank God
