I have a lot of common interests and I'm a pretty easy-going person. But my bestie of 10 years is totally different from me as far as interests. So that's not as important as much as personality and being able to hold a conversation.

I agree. My best friend and I are nothing alike. lol She loves rap music and I am into old 90's punk and grunge with a side of Eminem. lol She is into dressing up like a girl, I am a huge tom boy, who frequently has bright dyed hair, etc....only thing we have in common is we are both neat freaks. lol

My other bestie is just like me, same taste in clothes musics guys etc....but she is a classic hoarder and does not clean. lol

People ask about my tattoos, and that usually strikes up conversation.

School and kids. Oh and video games. I spent 45 minutes after class talking to one of my classmates about Skyrim.   He was shocked.

Most people don't share my interests.

Lol you just described me and my bestie to a T. I'm the rap-loving girly girl and she's the grunge-punk tomboy. Neither of us are neat freaks though. I'm slightly neater than her, hah.

I think you dont need much or anything in common to have any kind of relationship to work out. Sure it may help when first buliding a relationship and all, but totally not a given.

Same here.

I usually lead with a compliment like "I love your shirt! Where did you get it?" Or "your hair looks great! Do you use a special shampoo or are you just one of those lucky girls?" That usually leads the conversation to some common ground, favorite places to shop, favorite beauty products, stuff like that.
