No, i know i can't hit my kid's pedi, but it's a dream.  

Yes, my children are tiny. I'm fricking 4'9 and weigh the same as a 12 year old! So, no i don't have linebackers for children.  
Worthless rant i know, but i had to do it, i'm annoyed.

A good pedi will take into consideration the size and build of mom and dad so as not to overreact.

That's why I don't take my kids to the doctors but once a year... My daughter only gained a lb between 4 and 8 months and they told me to switch to formula because my breastmilk is stunting her.   "well, you son never grew like that"... Maybe because men on both sides of the family are tall and hefty... And my daughter takes after me... and I am only 5 feet tall and was thin most of my life until pregnancy.

He's growing, just slowly. He's just a small child.

I would maybe suggest changing doctors. My daughter's were both over 8 lbs and my son was 5pounds. He was 3 before he gained more than 17lbs. But his doctor understood he was having problems with acid reflux but nobody deserves to have a doctor make them feel that way especially of parents are on the petite side. Just proves that having an education doesn't keep someone from being a jerk....hope it gets better for you.
