SO was spanked as a kid and so was I. I was only spanked when I did something very wrong, SO got spanked for every wrong thing he did. I think the way his father used the spanking method was wrong. When DS is older and doesn't listen I will discipline him and when that doesn't work then i'll spank. Parents anymore think discipline is enough when it isn't, hell when I got stuff taken away from me or when I was grounded I didn't care, I did whatever. When my mom spanked me though I definitely listened to her after that. I won't spank for every little thing nor will SO. I'm going to try my hardest to discipline DS instead of spanking.. Now a days you can't even spank your kid in public without someone sayings it's abuse. Here anymore patents let their kids get away with murder and it's pathetic.

I don't spank. Doesn't mean I don't discipline my child, or let her get away with murder.

ETA: Neither my SO or I were spanked. We turned out a'ight. Aside from our raging insanity, of course.

I was spanked as a child, I will say when I was spanked it corrected my behavior and I never did whatever I was in trouble for again. My dad took another approach by putting us in the corner and that worked too. I'm going the non-spanking way with my child though as I don't agree with it.

We don't, and won't spank. My son will be 2 this month,, and right now we focus on redirection, and explaining. He doesn't mess with sockets, he knows hot things are not to be touched..he throws the occasional tantrum, but *shrugs* even adults throw tantrums.

I don't spank. I have done it and instantly regretted it.

However, I was spanked when I was younger. Quite often. I was the baby and I guess they just ran out of patience when it came to me. I never think about it, it didn't really matter much to me. I have no long term effects. I didn't really give a smurf tbh. I fell off my bike learning to ride and scraped my knee. It hurt, but I wasn't scared of my bike afterward. My Dad beat my ass if I did something terribly stupid of naughty, it didn't make me scared of my Dad.

I dont spank my kids (4 yr old once) she unbuckled the her car seat from the saet itself undid her 5 point harness then opened the car door on highway. First and last time I spanked her.

But overall no, I dont spank my kids. I dont care if people do it, I was spanked and I really dont care that I was spanked for every little thing, cause I always thought it was funny, and told my mom to hit me more cause it didnt hurt at all. lol Eventually she just stopped cause well, I laughed in her face about it and ya.

My kids get discilpined when they need to, being grownded writting lines loosing privlages like games tv, phone time or outside, not attending a sports game taht day (one they are involved in)

I just prefer other methods over spanking.

I was spanked, BD was beat/abused.

I do believe in spanking when needed, but I try to redirect my children & only spank (eldest for now) when he does something really bad. I have to remind BD sometimes that he's still a "baby" because he's heavy handed. If he gets in trouble, I'd rather be the one punishing.
