Hey you Australians!

posted 6th Feb
I saw on this random facts website that Australia doesn't allow children to blow out birthday candles together because it spreads germs. Is that true?
That "fact" was a little out there so I thought I would ask someone who lives there.

TIA!

this was on the news tonight
they are not making it law in kindys , but its going to be up to the kindy if they are going to allow it
they are suggesting that bringing in a cupcake and put a candle on it so the child still has a candle to blow out , and then either bring cupcakes for everyone or bring a cake

its just so they dont put germs on the cake
not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing
in some ways i can see the point , but in others kids will be kids lol

I can understand the reasoning behind that, but it would only be a problem if a kid was sick. Hopefully no one would bring a sick kid to a party, though.

It's actually a new thing mainly for childcare centers, As Australians we can send our children on their birthdays with cake and candle.
They are just trying to take precautions so no disease or ilness, although you can send individual cup cakes with a candle. Oh well all my kids are in priamry school so it dosen't affect me.

Oh! We're not allowed to bring outside food to our children's daycares or school at all ever.

Really, we can here. As long as its peanut free due to allergies. Mt dd's teacher buys every kid in the class a cake of the childs choice on their birthday. My dd always gets a DQ ice cream cake, only kind she likes. lol

At vday and halloween christmas etc.....I always bring in stuff I made for both my kids classes and hand them out. lol
Daycare was the same, just needs to be peanut free.

Oh and I think its weird about the candle thing, but since its kindy (daycare) I get it. lol

Well I take that back. We are allowed to bring outside food, but only if the teachers ask us to and they'll give a list of things to choose from and it must be pre-packaged.

In my sons dayvcare you paid for a cake to be made so they knew what was in it, But also all food was covered under the daily costs.

I was seriously just thinking about candle blowing as my kids bdays are coming & I think I will keep up the tradition I have done that they get their own mini cakes. I hate the idea of them blowing all over everyone's cake. It has always been a pet peeve & maybe it's why I don't really care for bday cake.
