PEMDAS question

My mother was trying to figure out a math question and asked me about order of operations. I always thought that with multiplication and division as well as addition and subtraction you just did it in the order they were listed, but other people are saying that you do all multiplication then all division and the same for addition and subtraction. So which is it, do you do do them in order or one before the other?

Parenthesis & brackets first
Multiplication and division are equal so do them first left to right
Then addition and subtraction are equal too so left to right

You do them in the order they come unless it is like (4/2)3 then you would do what is in the parenthases (sp) first.

you do all the multapacation or devision first in the way they are listed then addition im taking math now,


so 14+20/8+2*6

would be 20 devided by 8
the 2 times 6 then 14 + w/e 2*6 is.

Parenthesis. Exponants. Multiplication. Division. Addition. Subtraction. Multiplication and division first, from left to right.
Addition and subtraction are then solved from left to right.

You do md and as as they are in the equation, which ever comes first left to right. But always md before as.

It should be taught more like this:

PEM(D)A(S)

Division and subtraction are just the inverse of multiplication and addition.

You can also just make the division and subtraction into multiplication and addition by taking the opposite thus getting rid of the D and S of the whole PEMDAS confusion. PEMA is much better though sounds much too like FEMA

3-5 is 3+-5

You're in a college math course and you can't even spell multiplication or divided.
