Can I refuse another 3 hr glucose tes?t
posted 5th Feb
I took and failed the 1hr. Right after drinking the glucose I started to feel really sick. Out of it, clammy, really nauseous. Got the call I had to take the 3 hr...Fasted like I was told, but had a small glass of water when I woke up like they said since I was getting blood drawn 4x. After drinking the glucose this AM I began to feel soooo sick. I thought to myself I wasnt going to make it through the 3 hrs. Sure enough, I got very light headed and almost passed out. Broke out in a cold sweat, then threw up all of the drink. It was 1 hr into the test and I had just gone back to give blood. Right after throwing up I felt instantly better. They told me I had to reschedule and do the test again. I know I wont be able to keep it down again and want to refuse. Can I refuse and just go on a GD diet?

You can refuse any test that you don't want, but don't be surprised if the OB gives you a ton of smurf for it.

Talk to your OB. They have different policies at different places.

You can refuse.
But if you are reacting that way, and failed the 1 hour you probably need to monitor your blood sugar. Your body isn't handling the sugar well.

You surely can. Your doctor may refuse to care for you, though.

you probably could refuse the test, but its not a good idea. there are many things that could happen if you do have GD, and sometimes diet is not enough, you may need insulin.

They might.
I took the test in the beginning of my pregnancy & had the same happen. My doc got enough to check and I didn't have GD then. I took the 1hr again at 26 weeks & failed and my doc let me skip the 3 hr and just go straight to special diet and poking my finger 4 times a day.

You can, your doctor may refuse to treat you though.
And it sounds like you may need it.

I failed the first one and my OB said "it was pointless to get the 3 hr glucose test done."

I think they need to find another way, if you aren't tolerating it... something is up... and if you keep getting sick every time you go do your test, how will he ever get the result... I would be honest and find out if there is another way.

Id be fine dieting and monitoring my sugars. I just dont think I can get through the test without getting sick. I eat well and exercise, im surprised I have an issue. No GD with my son and I used my last pregnancy as an excuse to over eat and eat poorly.

I failed my 1 hour. My me then wanted me to do a 3 hour. I did that one. I failed the first hour but passed hours 2 and 3. My me wanted me to do another 3 hour but I knew I wouldn't make it. My dad has diabetes and had an extra machine so I asked her if I could take my blood sugar a few times a day. She said I could. You may be able to do that as well. Ask your doctor. Good luck!

I failed my one and three hr. I had to check sugars 7 times a day. 7. Totally not fun. No diabetes in my family. Not overweight. Under 25. No relation to show it. Didn't have it with my first. Also had to go to a diabetes training class. If you can't keep it down I don't know how they expect you to the next time. But I wouldn't be surprised if he makes you do all this. And then depending on sugar results meds. That stinks. I hate those test. Sorry your goin thru this girl!

I passed my GD test and that smurf made me feel sick as hell. It doesnt necessarily mean you can't handle sugar well, it's a LOT of sugar. I would ask if there is any other ay they can test you since the liquid makes you so sick. I've heard there are other things like gummy bears or something, maybe that would work better on your stomach :-\ Good luck hun
