yuck that GD test sucks ass! i failed the 1 hour one also had to take the 3 hour one and passed it the drink is nasty i didnt get sick but i had a huge headace after words from the drink i just took it to get it over and done with i know it sucks to take the test but its better to know if you have GD or not! but yes you can refuse any test but as the one mom said your doc might give you hell for not doing it.

I have a needle phobia and that's what I did with my first pregnancy. Refused the three hour test and just followed a very strict diabetic diet. It was pretty damn obvious I was diabetic with both of my pregnancies though...

I would refuse it after all that! Actually, I plan to refuse GD testing altogether this pregnancy. But there are other tests they can do. Check out this page. It's quite lengthy, but there's a lot of good information there. Good luck with whatever you do.

T-swizzle- How was it obvious you had GD? Curious, as i've never felt bad or different after eating anything. Taking the glucose drink is the first time i've felt bad and man it hit me and made me feel awful. What is a diabetic diet?

It was obvious from my numbers and from my weight gain. The diet is strict... but worth it for baby! A ton of protein and hardly any carbs unless they're complex... like whole grains. They should set you up with a nutritionist to come up with a meal plan

I've got only 9 weeks left, so yes I can do any crazy diet for a few weeks for a healthy baby!

My doc didn't have me do the test because I am type 2 so why bother. But he told me that had I not been diabetic he would have had me drink a can of Coke and eat a candy bar. So there are other ways to get the required sugar into your body. Just sayin.

I got nauseas from my gd test I hated it felt like I was gonna throw up almost did, but I knew I had to do it so I wouldn't have to go through it again. I'd see if they could find a different way to go about it for you

on the 1 hour, my blood sugar was 135 and the cut off was 135 so they're trying to make me do the 3 hour but i still havent even scheduled it. and i refuse to. my ob lectures me every appointment but after the appointment and checking on baby she says im more than likely fine so im not going to get it done. ill be 36 weeks tomorrow and have an ob appointment so we will see what she says then seeing as it takes 2 weeks to schedule it at least and im contracting everyday. but the 1 hour was HELL! i didnt throw it up but i was so sick i couldnt move.

Just had my 1 hr. glucose test on monday & they called me wed. morning told me that my OB wants to see me right away that day. True enogh I failed & my blood sugar was 256. They put me straight to a special diet & i have to check my blood sugar 4X a day & have to see my OB within a wk.
