what to do?

posted 5th Feb
My oldest son will be 3 in may. I know its normal for him to throw fits and test his boundaries. But he goes WAY overboard... we do time outs and quiet times for when he is in trouble but he will keep getting out of time out and quiet time. When he throws fits he hurts himself by pulling his hair, scratching himself, hitting his head on walls... also he doesn't have any interest interacting with other kids or adults.. not even me. He can interact. He just doesn't want to. If I try to get him to interact he will throw a fit and hurt himself. His doctor doesn't think its autism because he CAN interact, he just doesn't have any interest to. He doesn't make eye contact either.. he can, he just doesn't. He is getting progressively worse... I feel so bad because I don't know how to help him.. its also very stressful. He doesn't listen. And he has this look when he gets in trouble that's like he just doesn't care. What can I do? Should I get a second opinion from a doctor? Child therapy? I'm at a complete loss... I want to help him but I have no clue how..

I would try therapy and ask your doctor if it isen't autism, what OTHER mental disabilities or problems it could be, because that is not the only one that has those symptoms you know?

I know one thing that works for people who are freaking out, is pressure. Wrap your arms around him with his arms down and squeeze him snugly. Children can become overstimulated and deep pressure stimulation can help ground them and calm them down. I've had to do it for my husband with his PTSD and it is a common therapy for children with autism as well as people with anxiety.

I hope you guys find something that works for you both!!

That's a good idea. I will try that. Thank you :-)
