I wasn't aware that steaming veggies and fruits, then nudging them costs a lot of money. Lol! Actually its cheaper than buying baby food and better for them.

But you ONLY want to focus on breastfeeding, despite the clear parallel with other aspects of parenting, right?

Right.

IDK about where you live, but cost of produce is actually pretty expensive. Especially if you actually buy the organic produce, like what's recommended, for making your own baby food.

Also, more and more moms are actually making their own baby food.

Quoting Amber :]:" It's a matter of not trying your hardest for what's best for your baby. I picked a carseat that had ... [snip!] ... even tried, and to be showing such criticism for women that do, and are proud enough to be public about it, is just idiotic."

I can't afford a top-of-the-line carseat. But breastfeeding is free, and breastmilk is readily available - it's something virtually any mother can provide despite means or income. So I fail to see the "parallel" there.

I'd also like to note that I didn't criticize anyone or call anyone a bad mother. It's just my opinion that mothers should at least try. Whether you actually do or not is your business and I really couldn't care less.

A pound of carrots is like a buck and a half and makes a smurfload of baby food. Way more than three 4oz jars for $.50 each.

And you keep avoiding my point. Should I bother replying?

exactly. It has no effect on me whether you choose to give your baby formula or breastmilk, but with all of the information out there, and breastmilk being free and so easily accessed, I do think that it is selfish to not try to breastfeed.

For a couple of people who couldn't care less, there sure are a bunch if posts about how selfish a woman is for not breastfeeding and how they clearly don't care as much for their baby's health as women who breastfeed do.

Tsk!

I've already said multiple times that this is not a matter of how much money mothers can spend on their kids. If the top of the line car seats, organic produce, and best safety devices out there were free (ETA: and I could squeeze them out of my tits), yes, it would be shameful. Seeing as they are not, your point is again, invalid.

A bunch? Um, I believe I stated once that I think women should at least try to breastfeed. And I do. Was I jumping down anyone's throat for not doing so? Nope, just stating my humble opinion IN A D&D THREAD that I created to discuss such. So I think you're overreacting just a little bit.

Just because I believe that someone should do something as a parent, doesn't mean I will judge them or think less of them (or attack them) for not doing so. To each his own.

we're not saying that women that don't breastfeed are selfish, we're saying that not even attempting to breastfeed just because you think it'll creep you out, is selfish. You're depriving your child of many nutrients that formula doesn't have, for your own comfort. The lady who wrote the article is doing such things while criticizing mothers who openly breastfeed... not cool.

I wasn't aware the point was money and not health ... my mistake!

The point isn't money, but you can't really ignore that fact. You're saying they're parallel, but they're really not because one costs a significant amount of money and the other doesn't. So, not having money is obviously an obstacle to some of those things. However, if you are able to breastfeed, there's really no such obstacle there.

I didn't know paying a buck and a half for carrots that'll yield far more baby food than $1.50 worth of jarred was considered "spending a significant amount"

I'm learning a lot from this thread!

I was referring more to the carseat and safety items, obviously.

I'm honestly not sure what your problem is. Sorry if you were offended by what I said, it's just my personal opinion. IDGAF if you agree or if you chose to breastfeed or whatever.

There's really no need to be so sarcastic and condescending.

Again, money being the issue when you say there's no obstacle to breastfeeding since its free.

There's a mental obstacle to overcome for some.

But I mean, since breastfeeding is free, smurf all that, just do it.
