Cold turkey was the only way I could get my boys to do it. Good Luck... maybe try and take it away for naps or during the day and then slowly take it away at night as well... I am not much help we just had the "binky fairy" come in and take them and they never asked again :-)

I did mine cold turkey, but you could try only giving it to him during naptime/bedtime or if hes sick.

Chuck them away and be done with it. It doesn't need to be a long drawn out process. There may be tears... There may not be, if you're lucky. He'll soon forget about it.

I agree with these ladies. Cold turkey is probably best. You may have a rough time at first, but then once he's used to not having it, there will be no more problems.

When I took it away, I went cold turkey, and they cried for maybe 1 day. Then they forgot about it.

Why do you feel like you have to stop it? If you can get it away through the day and only for naps, that shouldn't affect his language development.

My 4 year old still uses hers for bed and when she is sick. We took it away through the day at about 14 months (except naps, bed and car), it came out of the car around 2 (I think). My 2 year old never took a soother.

Best of luck.

Why are you wanting to take it away right now then? Let him have it when he really wants it, like as in, the times he's going to have a meltdown over it. Just start off by only giving it to him when he asks. Then maybe wait until he is old enough to understand before you fully take it.

My oldest gave away the paci at like 15 months, then found one in his room and took it back up again. I never really forced the issue & he ended up chucking it for good when his brother was born at 21 months. My youngest wouldn't take a paci past 1 month, unfortunately. I love them things. lol.

I did it cold turkey. I told him it's time to say goodbye to it and we threw it in the trash.

if I knew it was going to be so easy I would of done it earlier than I did! He did start the chew and suck on his favourite teddy bear for awhile though. But stopped after a month or two
chewing on the teddy bear made his teeth crooked grrr
