Probably talking about the nuchal translucency- a pocket of fluid that develops temporarily on the back of the fetal neck while the endocrine system develops and matures. It can be a marker for chromosomal abnormalities, but doctors like to refer patients out for a more detailed scan as a lot of times an increased NT is the result of baby being in a bad position or old machinery used in the OB's office.

This! Have they drawn blood to check for chromosome defects? The harmony test is suppose to be as accurate or very close to an amnio..its just takes vials of blood.

Generally I think that's a sign for Down's syndrome. But I'm not a doctor.

Quoting RysMum:" chromosomal abnormalities??"

A thicker than normal nuchal fold *can* indicate trisomy 21.

That does not mean your baby has it, but it warrants further checking.

How were the results of your afp bloodwork?

i did not have this, but my daughters head was too small. they did another ultrasound to check measurements.

It was just the way the first tech measured her. Hopefully this is the problem for you aswell.

Honestly, you're probably fine. They just want to take a closer look. Increased fluid in the nuchal translucency is only a marker for any problems, it's not definitive and the odds from the NT scan are usually pretty favorable. My baby had an increased amount of fluid with positive blood work, but the odds are 1:300. That's a .3% chance that she'll be born with a chromosomal abnormality.

No they would do them about now. The harmony test can be done at any time but the quad test I believe has to be done by 13 weeks.
