Problem eater?

posted 5th Feb
Do any of you have a child who is a "problem eater?" I'm not talking about being a picky eater here, this is a link talking about the difference.

My son is 4 1/2 and things are getting really out of hand. He only eats fruit, yogurt, noodles, and of course sweets if they're offered. He will run screaming and crying from the table if he's forced to sit beside us while we eat our meals. When I go and get him and make him come back he will cover his eyes and gag because he says it "sinks and it's disgusting" I'm not talking liver and onions here, things like pizza or chicken, or pork, or spaghetti. The other day at school he screamed at the teacher because she put chips on his plate during another kids birthday snack. He's never once eaten a meal at anyone elses home.
I don't know what to do here. I've never forced my kids to eat, I've always thought it's my job to cook it and their job to eat it but he's to the point now where he gags if he sees his sister eating a bagel with nutella on it. Should I just take him to a child psychologist? What other specialist could help us? He's already in speech therapy

Look into feeding / occupational therapy. It seems like he may have a serious problem eating. Many textures can be bothersome.

yeah I know but who do I call? Should I call a child psychologist for an evaluation or just go to an OT? There's a child psychologist locally that specializes in eating disorders, is she someone I could call? I just don't know who to go to for the help I know he needs

Talk to your Pedi. They should have some resources for you. Explain that it is a problem, even if they think it isn't. You can call a psychologist but it will probably have to go through your dr anyway.
