Any seamstresses?

posted 5th Feb
Ok AGAIN sorry that I can't post pics on mobile so it's copy and paste links =\
This is the dress I fell in LOVE with.

Bt this is the dress I got because the one I LOVE was discontinued and I couldn't find it used in my size

So I'm a big girl and my biggest discomfort with my body is my arms and shoulders
Which.. Um duh I bought a freakin strapless dress! Ugh.
I love the dress just not the top
Could I get a top like the first dress added onto my dress? Would it look good?
How much would it cost? Or an estimate anyway.. Is that something I have to provide material for?

I have no idea how much it would cost, but nearly anything can be done for the right price & if you find someone willing to do it. I knw osomeone near me that could 7 would do it & she finds the fabric, but I can't even recall HOW I originally found her. I sew, but nothing like that...becuas efrainkly I hate thos ebridal fabrics & wouldn't choose to do it. The woman I know made my wedding dress for me without a pattern & based on my sketch. LOL I got a dress, veil & cape for $600 - a steal for what she did. I was in awe.

I would start by googling the closest big city to you & dress maker. I am SURE there has to be someone in your area that can do this for you. Find someone who makes wedding dresses & they'll be able to handle this.

I don't know how David's works, but at most bridal shops they would do that for you. My biggest concern, though, would be that the added sleeves would look kind of crazy and too busy with the rest of the dress, because you have all those pickups in the skirt plus all the beading in the bodice.

One thing you might want to consider is just having some simple, wide straps attached. That should minimize your shoulders without taking anything away from the design of the dress.

That's all true but I figured at best I could wrap some lace around my shoulders and see how I felt about it while I'm getting it bustled
I refuse to let DB do anything to my dress though.. MAYBE bustle it since I've heard it can be done in one appointment but nothing that requires cutting snipping or handling the upper part of my dress I've heard more horror stories about the wrong alterations than good ones lol

I don't know what kind of experience they require from their alterations people, or how well they're trained. I would imagine that most of them know what they're doing, but again I have no experience with that company.

Wide straps would just be tacked into the interlining, though, whereas the cap sleeves in your other picture would involve a lot more handling and stitching into the bodice. Just food for thought, I guess.

You wouldn't get the open back look, but you could almost get the same look with a wide lace stole that you wrapped over the shoulder, under the armpit & tied in back.

You can also do a bridal wrap/shrug: http://www.wraporshrug.co.uk/bridal-shrugs-2/
