Don't know what to do...

posted 5th Feb
Okay so lets start off by saying I am severely allergic to pineapple.
nd
So last night I went to Taco Bell, and asked for a baja blast.. I asked if there was any pineapple in it and they said no and looked at the box... Needless to say I went into anaphylaxis and was in the hospital for10 hours...

Later I looked online and it said nothing about pineapple but it said "natural and artificial flavors", So I talked to mountain dew and they said they don't share information about the natural flavors to the public, but she said she'd try to get as much information as possible...

What should I do? Taco bell should know exactly whats in something for people with allergies.. right?? Or at least know how to handle something like that. Say "I don't know" instead of "No"..

Maybe i'm overreacting but it was really scary.

IMO, they should say, "may contain" if they don't know if it has it or not.

Baja blast is lime and pineapple flavoured... I would talk to the manager and bitch about it.

That is really scary and I'm glad you're ok.

I honestly don't think the Taco Bell staff did anything wrong, they provided the infomation made available by the manufacturer.

I would have a problem with the manufacturer not labeling about allergens.

I just dont know where to go from here, should I talk to taco bell and tell them about the reaction and say it probably has pineapple in it for the future so they know? Or should I waitand see what mountain dew says if they will tell me a definite yes or no?

It said natural flavors. The individual stores won't know what those natural flavors are. It's not their fault. It is corporates fault for not disclosing it.

If I was deadly allergic to anything I wouldn't eat anything with a vague discription. It my responsibility to keep myself safe, not someone paid minimum wage.

It doesn't say pineapple on anything :\ they looked at the box, all it said was tropical storm and that could be coconut, it doesn't say pineapple at all. It doesn't even say lime and that's what I tasted the most.

I would write a letter to their corporate office detailing exactly what you went through as a result of their employees being unaware that a product contained pineapple, along with documentation from the ER if possible. At the very least you should get some free food out of it!

I would tell both Taco Bell AND Mountain Dew. Tell Mt. Dew that by not "disclosing" what was in it, they caused an allergic reaction, so at least they can add warnings, or be more specific that people with allergies should not chance it.

What doesn Mountain Dew have to do with it?

Did you consume both & want to know which you had a reaction from?

I would let Taco Bell know about the reaction and that it msy have been triggered by the flavorings in the soda and then keep pressing PepsiCola for answers on what flavorings they use in their Baja Blast mix.

If you're deathly allergic to pineapple then it'd be a good idea to stay away from anything tropical as a whole, since pineapple is extremely common in tropical fruit flavor blends. Pineapple also isn't a common allergy which is probably why it was never listed on the labels for allergenic substances.

Sorry you had to go through that
