Body part discussion...with a 3 year old help!

posted 5th Feb
So my 3 year old daughter has been very curious lately about female body parts. She has lots of questions (she can say almost anything you can, we have entire conversations) but I am not sure of what I should tell her. she has recently been around her little boy cousin. When his diaper was being changed the look on her face! Then again, more questions. This is my first child and I didn’t think I would have to deal with these questions yet. I do not know what to tell her. I don’t exactly know how I should refer to the female and male parts to a 3 year old. All I picture is the kid from the movie “Kindergarten Cop” telling everyone “Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina”. Any advice? Terms that you told your kids at a young age?

I say penis and vagina. He calls everyone's parts a pee because well that's where it comes out
But I still use the actual terms.

He also says boobs, nipples

He is 3 as well

I was past due on my shaving for awhile and he asked if I had (name of my cats) hair down there
LOL

We say penis and vagina. I don't give nicknames to any other body part so I'm not going to do it with a vagina/penis either. It makes them seem different or dirty and I don't want that.

My 3 year old son asked about his sisters once. I said "its her peepee and it looks a little different from yours because she's a girl and you're a boy." Then he went on about his day..I believe sometimes its ok to be vague.

I use the correct terms (afterall that's what they're called, lol), and I just answer any questions they have honestly (yet age appropriately).

My daughter is 5 and she knows boys have penises and girls have vulva/vaginas. She knows that girls eventually grow boobs. I'm pregnant with my third and she asked me how the baby got there and I just told her that daddy planted a seed in mommy's belly and it grew into a baby (figured she didn't need to know about the birds and the bees just yet, lol).

I feel that it's very important to be honest with your kids when it comes to their bodies. And I definitely avoid anything that would make them feel like their bodies are shameful, etc. Just use your discretion and keep things simple and age appropiate for now.

I just tell the truth. At 3 my Ds know all the real names of everything & whatnot. My younge roen is nearing 3 & not nearly as verbal or curious so he knows less, but that is fine too.

Be honest. Be simple. Be age appropriate.

We use the proper terms. Kindergarten cop lol I can actually imagine my son saying it like that.

Yep. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, an almost 5 year old son, and a 3 month old son. Penis and Vagina everywhere! Lol and considering I'm EBF, breasts too!! There has never really been any confusion about it since we've always treated it matter of factly. Heck, my son even knows that the reason women have vaginas is for babies to come out.

Thank you so much ladies! I appreciate the feedback. Looks like honesty is best! I don't want to lie to her. I will just get expect to hear her blurt one of the words out in the grocery store like she does everything else lol.

When my oldest was little I told her that she had a vagina and her brother had a penis and those were the proper terms. I also told her that we could keep calling it her "woo woo" if she wanted. She tried out vagina a few times to see if I would have any reaction, I'm assuming to see if it was like other "big girl" words she wasn't supposed to say. When I didn't do anything the novelty of a new word wore off and she reverted back to calling it her woo woo for a couple years. Now she is older we just use the regular terms because she is quick to correct her little sister if she says woo woo with "that's really called a vagina!", LOL

We were at dinner the other night and the waitress asked of my son was ready to e a big brother & he said "baby Julia's coming in 3 weeks & her legs don't work" (I told him she will be a little baby and won't be able to walk) and he quickly followed it up with "and she's not gonna have a penis like me, she has a China like mommy"

Almost died lol
